IND vs NZ Match Prediction - Jan 29, 2023

New Zealand has taken a 1-0 lead over India in the T20 series and is now eyeing a series win. India was surprised by the spin it faced in the previous match and looked a bit underprepared. The inexperience in its camp showed and we think the players would have got a good wakeup call.

The action will now shift to Lucknow where the surface is expected to be flatter and better for scoring runs. Is that something that should favor India or New Zealand? Let us take a closer look at the two teams.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for India vs New Zealand 2nd T20 2023. The match will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on the 29th of January 2023.

IND vs NZ Team Previews

India

India had a game to forget and will want to move on quickly from the first T20. As Hardik Pandya said, only Washington Sundar put up a fight with two wickets and a fighting fifty late in the inning. WHile assessing that match, you should take into consideration that India had the worse of the conditions. It won the toss and chose to bowl, a decision that backfired.

Still, there are questions to answer.

Shubman Gill has not had a great start to this T20 career and Ishan Kishan is still looking for a way to make his mark as well. Rahul Tripathi has had one inning where he made an impact but he is also not yet the finished product. This means that the batting depends very much on Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.

SKY looked in prime touch and Hardik also scored runs in the ODI series so that will be the core of the Indian batting. Deepak Hooda and Washington Sundar add depth to the lineup while providing two bowling options as well.

The bowling lineup could probably use a shakeup. Arshdeep Singh has been poor for a while now and may be dropped for this match. Mukesh Singh is the obvious replacement in the squad. Umran Malik and Shivam Mavi went for runs and are not the most reliable. They do have a good habit of picking up wickets, though.

Kuldeep Yadav was quite good as was Washington Sundar but the conditions were completely in their favor.

India's T20 team is still developing and they are up against a strong New Zealand team. They will need to get their plans and execution just right to equalize the series.

India Playing 11

Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, YS Chahal.

New Zealand

New Zealand played the perfect match for the conditions they were in. Finn Allen made the most of the new ball, Devon Conway batted deep, and Daryll Mitchell provided the power late in the inning. Afterward, Mitchell Santner showed just why he is one of the best spinners in the T20 format right now by literally keeping the ball on a string.

New Zealand took the opportunities that came in front of it and eventually won comfortably.

Now that the odds have equalized, though, it is not as good a deal as it was in the previous match. New Zealand's batting is good but apart from Conway, no one else really managed to get in. Mitchell was also fortunate to come across a wayward Arshdeep Singh in the last over.

If Conway falls early, the rest of the batting lineup could struggle. Similarly, the bowlers were very effective in conditions that helped them massively. If there is not so much spin on offer, we think Sodhi and Bracewell will struggle to get their overs in.

Santner and Duffy bowled brilliantly and Ferguson is an absolute gun in the T20 format. This will be where New Zealand poses the biggest challenge.

New Zealand Playing 11

Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner.

IND vs NZ Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first. There may be some dew on offer and could make batting a lot easier in the second inning.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain forecast in Lucknow and the temperatures should be in the mid-teens for the majority of the match. As far as the pitch goes, the previous match played here saw India score 199 against Sri Lanka. The average score batting first in T20 internationals is over 195 but if you look at the average T20 scores, that falls to around 160.

We think something around 180 will be what teams will see as par batting first.

IND vs NZ Betting Tips

India was too expensive in the first match but that is no longer the case. You can get much better odds for it right now. Also, the odds on New Zealand have reduced after the first match. We think this is a good opportunity to back the home team to win. India's batting is better than what we saw in the previous match and will bounce back on a better surface.

Bet on India to win.

We expect this to be a high-scoring match and with the number of six-hitter on both sides, this number could be crossed quite easily.

The Over/Under is a bit high but the odds on offer are also quite good. Once again, we are banking on the surface being in favor of the batters and the opportunity for one of them to go on to hit a big one.

We recommended this market in the previous match and that came through. With SKY in good form and as the most prolific six-hitter (total number as well as sixes per balls faced), we are going to take another punt in this one.
