India

India played well for a large part of the first match. Its bowlers were effective on a difficult surface before giving away a few too many runs at the death. The batting disappointed with a lack of partnerships and intent at the top but Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer took India within a few shots of victory. 

There were a lot of positives in that match. We think you can expect a better batting surface for this next match. Ranchi has seen some high-scoring matches in recent years and suits the Indian batters. Players like Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Sanju Samson are unlikely to miss out for too long. There may be further changes in the lineup and in the batting order as India continues to give its youngsters a chance. 

The bowling lineup for India was impressive as well. Mohammad Siraj bowled well, Kuldeep Yadav was attacking, and Shardul Thakur also challenged the South Africans. The death bowling and the fielding remain big concerns. 

South Africa

South Africa started slowly but built their inning brilliantly. Quinton de Kock, David Miller, and Heinrich Klaasen played aggressively to help their team to a defendable total. While concerns over the batting approach of Temba Bavuma will certainly be present, we expect Janneman Malan and Aiden Markram to also contribute in this series. 

South Africa fielded a full-strength side in the previous match. It had a number of batters that have a lot of experience playing in Indian conditions. They also have their leading players in form and on flat pitches, they could really take an inexperienced Indian bowling apart. 

The differentiator in the previous match was South Africa's bowling. Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj were the two standout performers but Wayne Parnell and Lungi Ngidi had their moments as well. Perhaps the only bowler who really struggled was Tabraiz Shamsi. 

South Africa should have enough in the tank to get the better of India once more.
