India continued to build on their rampaging form at home as they handed South Africa yet another humiliating defeat on their tour to India. India now have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match test series and will be looking to complete a whitewash by winning the third and final match of the series as well.
Thanks to the introduction of World Test Championship, dead-rubbers aren't the same in test cricket now. Each match of the series carries significant importance, and 40 points will be up for grabs when the two teams clash in the third test beginning on the 19th of this month. The match will be played at JSCA Stadium, Ranchi. India, on the other hand, have done incredibly well in the series so far, and it will not be easy to get past them in the upcoming match as well.
India made a significant change to their batting lineup by dropping Hanuma Vihari for an extra bowler in Umesh Yadav, and that change worked to perfection. There's hardly anything that has gone wrong for India in their last few test matches, be it at home or away.
The decision to open with Rohit Sharma worked wonders in the first test as the southpaw smashed a century in each innings of the first test. Mayank Agarwal has been in fine form and has got plenty of runs under his belt in the two matches. The biggest relief for India was Virat Kohli scoring a double in the second test. While Indian skipper had done pretty well up until the last match, he didn't have a big innings to his name for a long time. Massive innings of 254 would certainly add to the confidence and strength of this already strong Indian middle-order.
Alongside a strong top-order, India have a solid middle-order, which appeared a little thin on paper when Hanuma Vihari was left out. However, the way Ravindra Jadeja contributed in the last match cleared all the doubts the management and the fans may have had about the depth of Indian middle-order. With the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Wridhimann Saha to follow, the Indian batting unit looks long and strong.
While Indians have scored heavily in the two matches, the major difference between the two sides has been in the bowling department. The fast bowlers have kept chipping away with the wickets on the first couple of days with the new ball. With the older ball, Mohammad Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammad Ashwin have been lethal, to say the least. The only shortcoming we have seen in the last two test matches has been the difficulty in dismissing the tail, especially after running through the top-order. Indian skipper and management will be keen to get that right as well in the third match of the series.
Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, V Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, WP Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shahbaz Nadeem, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami.
While the fans may feel South Africa have been humiliated with two massive defeats in the two test matches of the series, the Proteas' skipper feels a little different. Despite being thin on experience in both departments of the game, the Proteas have fought hard and better as compared to the South African side that toured India in 2015.
However, largely due to the nature of surfaces and conditions, comparing the performances of the two sides would be like comparing apples to oranges. Having said that, South Africa have had some positives to take from the first two matches, albeit not many. Dean Elgar, Faf du Plessis, and Quinton de Kock have been amongst the runs, but lack of support from anyone else has cost the Proteas.
Additionally, their bowling hasn't fired at all in the tournament. While Kagiso Rabada started off pretty well in the last test, he too has been listless in a couple of matches gone so far. With Ranchi's pitch likely to be similar to what it was in the two games gone so far, the Proteas' bowlers will have to put up a much-improved effort unless they want to get hammered around the park.
Dean Elgar, Quinton de Kock, Zubayr Hamza, Faf du Plessis, Temba Bavuma, Heinrich Klaasen, George Linde, Dane Piedt, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi.

Going by the way things have gone in the series so far, there's plenty of daylight between the two sides. While India have been fabulous and have done nothing wrong, the problems are plenty for the Proteas. Despite the conditions being home-like in the second test for the Proteas, they failed to thrive. With Indians flying high on confidence and Proteas looking down and out, betting on Proteas could prove to very risky, and the reward is certainly not worth the risk. With almost everyone in the eleven contributing, Indians are firm favorites to win the upcoming encounter as well.
