India and Sri Lanka are about to play another short series against each other, one that was hastily arranged to fit into an already cramped schedule. India and Sri Lanka play each other pretty often and India has taken this as an opportunity to rest some of its senior players.
With the T20 World Cup on the horizon and a five-match T20 series against New Zealand up next, this series means more than most recent bilateral series between the two. Sri Lanka will be hoping to pull of the kind of upset it did in Pakistan. There are some exciting youngsters coming through the ranks and it finally feels like Sri Lankan cricket is on the upswing once more.
Beating India in India, though, is one of the hardest tasks in cricket right now.
India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 is going to be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on the 5th of January 2020.
India has decided to rest Rohit Sharma for this series and will welcome back Shikhar Dhawan in his place. Dhawan has been out injured during which time Lokesh Rahul has been scoring runs prolifically. Now, both these players are going to be competing directly for the right to be India’s first-choice opener alongside Rohit Sharma whenever he is back.
The Indian lineup showed a lot of intent to play more aggressively against the West Indies and made a deliberate effort to try and hit more sixes. Virat Kohli was in terrific form and will be the biggest threat to Sri Lanka once again.
While we all know the love that Virat Kohli has for the Sri Lankan team, he has never actually scored a T20 fifty against them in India. We don’t think that record is going to last for too long, though!
Shreyas Iyer and Rishab Pant have been alternating between numbers four and five and will continue to get games. Shreyas Iyer has proven himself as one of the most capable middle-order players with consistent scores whenever he has batted. Pant is not quite under pressure for his place but he is going to want to score some runs for sure.
The number 6 position should go to Manish Pandey, although India has played Shivam Dube there earlier. Dube has been identified as a potential six-hitter floater and could get a chance again ahead of Pandey.
Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini, and Shardu Thakur will make up the pace attack, Bumrah’s presence makes this attack very dangerous although the other two are not too experienced. We think that Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja will begin as the first-choice spinners for this series.
The Indian team is very strong and well-balanced even though 3-4 first-choice players are still missing out.
Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, V Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, RR Pant, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, SN Thakur, NA Saini, JJ Bumrah.
The Sri Lankan cricket team knows it has a mountain to climb against this Indian side. Its memory of beating Pakistan 3-0 seems like a distant memory and it has been thrashed by Australia 3-0 after that. Sri Lanka also failed to beat New Zealand in Sri Lanka earlier in 2019.
The Sri Lankan team is not a pushover by any means, though.
It has some very dangerous batsmen at the top of the order that like playing in subcontinental conditions. Avishka Fernando was very good at the top of the order for Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2019 and is going to start at the top with Danushka Gunathilaka once again.
Avishka Fernando does not have a great strike-rate in the T20 internationals he has played but his recent stint in T10 cricket showed he has the shots. Sri Lanka is doing the right thing by persisting with him. The rest of the batting lineup is also quite exciting.
Oshada Fernando, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Dasun Shanaka are some of the players in line to play the first match. In fact, the most scrutiny is going to be on Angelo Mathews, one of Sri Lanka’s old guard who has not featured in T20 cricket for close to 20 months.
Niroshan Dickwella is also in the side and could get a game.
The bowling duties are going to be led by Lasith Malinga. For all of the success Malinga has had around the world, he has struggled the most against India throughout his career. He is going to lead the bowling alongside Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha.
Wanindu Hasaranga impressed with his wrist-spin wiles and could get a game ahead of Lashkan Sandakan.
The Sri Lankan team has a very good squad to build from and should not be discounted ahead of the series.
Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Perera, Oshada Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Isuru Udana, Wanidu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, Lasith Malinga.
The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first as that has been successful strategy here in the past. Some amount of dew is also expected to play a role.

A few light showers have been predicted in Guwahati on match day but the forecast becomes much better around the time that the match is expected to start. The pitch at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium is expected to be good for batting but helpful for the spinners as well.
We have seen teams struggle here in the past to get used to the pace of the wicket and end up scoring a below-par total. The Indian team was bowled out for 118 here against Australia. The reports suggest that a better batting wicket is in store for this match.
Dream11 tips and Dream11 prediction for India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 2020. We are going with the big-guns in this match and have decided to pick Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah as our captain and vice-captain respectively. The nature of the pitch could dictate the need to pick an additional spinner in the side, which could be done in place of Navdeep Saini after the toss. There are some opportunities to make some smart picks in the Sri Lankan side. Batting positions and current form are the criteria we have used to make those decisions.

The Indian team has shown itself to be quite vulnerable while starting a series in the recent past. It is almost as if they take a little while to get started. However, the stats are overwhelmingly in favor of India in this match. They have won the previous five T20 internationals against Sri Lanka played in India. They have also won the previous 11 T20 series against Sri Lanka and never lost a series to Sri Lanka in India.
We have to back the Indian team in this match as well.
