IND vs SL Match Prediction - Jan 07, 2023

Both the T20 matches played between India and Sri Lanka in 2023 have been brilliant to watch. The action went down to the wire and both teams had chances to win. the series is locked at 1-1 with everything to play for in the third and final match.

One thing is certain. The odds being offered by the best cricket betting websites on Sri Lanka are quite low. Yes, India has won 11 out of the previous 12 T20 internationals against Sri Lanka while playing at home but the teams are quite closely matched.

The action now shifts to Rajkot where an absolute batting paradise should be in store. Which team will end up victorious? Let us try to analyze the two teams closely.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for India vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20 2023. The match will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on the 7th of January 2023.

IND vs SL Team Previews

India

India bowled remarkably poorly in the second T20 international and that was where it ended up losing the match. Inexperience from Umran Malik in his final over and just an incredible amount of no-balls from the entire bowling unit. Arshdeep Singh bowled 5 no balls in the two overs he bowled and ended up going for 37 runs. As someone who has been tasked with bowling at the death for India, Arshdeep Singh had a game to forget.

Shivam Mavi also ended up giving away 53 runs in his four overs, Umran Malik went for 48 in his four (but picked up three wickets), and Hardik Pandya was the only seamer with some respectable figures.

Pandya's two-three overs with the new ball are quite valuable and allow him to move his bowlers around later in the game. He could have given Deepak Hooda a go in the middle perhaps as the spinners were bowling well. Chahal and Axar both ended with excellent figures in a high-scoring game and should be full of confidence ahead of the third T20.

Of course, Axar was also the star with the bat. He came in at 57 for 5 in 9.1 overs with India all but buried. Axar went on to score 65 from 31 balls with 6 massive sixes and alongside SKY, took India to the brink of a miraculous victory.

Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, and Rahul Tripathi missed out in the previous match but they should not be counted out just yet. They are all class batters that will score runs given enough opportunities. On a flat batting track in Rajkot, we expect the Indian top order to be much more effective.

India's batting is still its strength especially as the middle/lower order is starting to cement itself.

India Playing 11

Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Tripathi, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, YS Chahal.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka deserved to win the second T20 international. Perhaps they should have won the first one as well and that is why they will go into the third T20 with nothing but a series victory on its mind. We finally saw the Sri Lankan batting lineup live up to expectations and put on a real show.

Kusal Mendia, Charith Asalanka, and Dasun Shanaka were fantastic in the previous match. The trio hit 14 sixes between them and were very severe on the Indian pacers. Shanaka is quickly establishing himself as one of the best in the business when it comes to the end overs. He also loves batting against India against whom he now has 407 runs in 19 innings at an excellent strike rate of 141.31 with 27 sixes!

Sri Lanka's batting is more than capable of putting up the runs. They just need to ensure their intent is the same because the career strike rates of all the Sri Lankan batters are quite poor.

Sri Lanka's bowling unit had a pretty different experience from the Indians. The Sri Lankan spinners suffered a lot of punishment (Hasaranga went for 26 in one over) while the pacers did an excellent job. Kasun Rajitha and Dilshan Madushanka can be proud of their effort in the previous match. They were also well supported by Chamika Karunaratne and Maheesh Theekshana.

Sri Lanka's T20 team is quite well-balanced and its leading players are in form. Them winning should not be a surprise but history has shown that Sri Lanka has struggled to put together strong performances consistently. They have won just 19 out of their previous 31. As mentioned earlier, the win in the previous match was the first in 12 against India in India.

Sri Lanka Playing 11

Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Avishka Fernando, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka, Wanidu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka.

IND vs SL Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. Both teams have won batting first so far and that is likely to be what they opt for in this match as well. The team batting second has won 55% of all the T20 matches (international and first-class) played at this venue.

Pitch and Conditions

There is absolutely no rain predicted in Rajkot on match day. The conditions will be nice and comfortable as the temperatures start to drop by the time the match starts. This is a venue that is loaded in favor of the batters. All the bowlers have struggled with their economy rates but it has been the most severe for off-spinners and fast bowlers.

Batters will have an absolutely flat surface on which they can attack from the start. Team will target at least 8-9 runs per over and so something around 170 should be seen as par.

IND vs SL Betting Tips

The odds being offered on Sri Lanka continue to baffle us. If you are a bettor that hedges bets through in-play betting then start with a bet on Sri Lanka and then hedge as the odds change. The previous two matches have provided plenty such opportunities and the same may be the case in the third one as well. If, however, you just want to put a single bet pre-match then we think India is still the team to back.

India's batting lineup is going to be hard to stop on the flat Rajkot pitch and we expect them to make fewer mistakes in this match.

Rajapaksa is going through a terrible runs of form. he has crossed 17.5 just once in his previous six innings. In fact, he has failed to cross 5 in four of his previous five innings. We think betting against him is the way to go.

The matches that we have seen so far have been high-scoring. 26 runs were hit off one Hasaranga over and there were two other overs in which more than 19.5 runs were hit. We like the chances of at least one such over in the upcoming match.
