IND vs SL Team Previews

India

India will welcome back its senior cricketers for this match. It appears as if the management has picked out 20 players which will play most ODI's leading into the World Cup. As a result, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Mohammad Shami are available for selection. Also, Hardik Pandya makes a comeback into the ODI squad after a long time. 

This means India has some selection debates to solve. Rohit Sharma will come back to the opening slot and he has said that he will be partnered by Shubman Gill. That means Ishan Kishan, who scored a massive double-century in his previous outing is going to be without a place! Of course, he could play in the middle order in place of KL Rahul or Shreyas Iyer but that would be a bit harsh on Iyer. There is also SKY waiting in the wings and how long can India continue to ignore him?

Hardik Pandya is sure to play at number 6 and Axar Patel has done enough to command the number seven position. The four bowlers that play this match are likely to be Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav will compete for the lone spinner's place in the team. Chahal is probably going to play but we think Kuldeep Yadav deserves a place as he can be a better wicket-taker in the middle overs.

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Lokesh Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, YS Chahal, Umran Malik, Mohammed Siraj.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka may have won six out of their previous ten ODI's but they came against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. We are not sure if Sri Lanka really has a settled ODI team at the moment and expect it to struggle in this series. Here is the thing. While T20 cricket and ODI cricket are both played with the white ball, ODI cricket seems to be closer to Test cricket than the T20 format. 

Players that succeed in T20 cricket may not translate that to the ODI format. That is exactly what Sri Lanka is hoping for. Players like Dilshan Madushanka, Dasun Shanaka, or even the spinners (Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana) are excellent T20 players but average ODI players. 

Kusal Mendia, Pathum Nissanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the batting lineup with support from Charith Asalanka and the all-rounders. 

A part of the reason why Sri Lanka has started to be more effective in T20 cricket is that its players do not need to score big individual runs or pick wickets regularly. The game comes to you. That is not the case in 50 over cricket and why we think Sri Lanka will struggle.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain predicted on match day and the weather should be quite comfortable. As far as the pitch goes, expect a batting beauty on which some really high scores can be got. The outfield at this venue will be lightning quick and the size of the boundaries is also quite small. 

300 has to be the minimum teams aim for and something around 350 is not out of the question either.

We have no hesitation in backing India in this match. Not only is India an absolute beast when it comes to playing at home, but it is also just a better ODI team than Sri Lanka.
