India
India made some bold (and rather unpopular on social media) decisions by leaving out Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. We thought both those decisions were warranted as they rewarded the players that have been performing in this format.
We don't expect any changes in the lineup for the second match either.
The batting lineup for India looked in excellent form with runs for all the leading batters headlined by Virat Kohli's century. Now, Eden Gardens is one of the venues where Rohit Sharma loves playing. He scored his 264 at this venue and has also made some terrific scores during the IPL. He is someone you could consider betting on.
The fast bowlers have had more help at the Eden Gardens in recent years and that could be another thing to watch out for as well. Mohammad Shami, Umran Malik, and Mohammad Siraj will all be waiting for another go at the Sri Lankan lineup.
If there is a weakness in this Indian lineup then we think it is their dropoff in quality after number 7. India has essentially 4 number eleven after Axar Patel and that could become a big problem toward the end of the inning.

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka was under pressure from the very start in the previous match and did not help itself by dropping important catches. That is not something they can afford to do against a far stronger Indian team. There were a couple of positives to take from the previous match. Kasun Rajitha bowled quite well in the face of a terrific onslaught and Dasun Shanaka continued to just take the Indian attack apart.
There has to be someone in the team asking for Shanaka to bat higher up the order so that he can have more impact on the outcome of the matches.
Pathum NIssanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Dasun Shanaka batted well. We have also seen Kusal Mendis be quite effective in the T20 series so there is hope for the Sri Lankan batting. We think it is more a question of adapting to the longer format which has been tough for Sri Lanka in the recent past.
Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage both went wicketless in the previous match. Eden Gardens is unlikely to be very helpful for them either. Dilshan Madushanka, Kasun Rajitha, and Chamika Karunaratne remain the bowlers with the best chance of success in this match.

Pitch and Conditions
The weather has been extremely kind so far and that continues to be the case. There is no rain forecast and we should have some very pleasant temperatures for the players to enjoy. The pitch at the Eden Gardens is going to be an interesting one. It has often been full of bounce and offered help to the seamers at the international level but becomes quite spinner-friendly during the IPL.
We expect a fast and bouncy surface that is good for batting but also has a little something in it for the fast bowlers. Another high-scoring match is likely with 350 being in sight again.
