IND vs SL Match Prediction - Mar 12, 2022

It was a reality check for Sri Lanka as they came across a task that so many teams over the world have found so difficult so scale down. They were up against the odds against a dominant Indian side playing at home and things turned out to be pretty much on expected terms. They will be up against India once again, this time in a day-night Test, and will have an equally difficult task, if not more.

The second match of the series between India and Sri Lanka is to be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on 12th March 2022. Coming from a venue where spinners thrived, this is going to be an altogether different experience for the two sides given the pink ball on offer. We expect this to be a match closer than the first one was and a feast for fans is certainly on the cards.

IND vs SL Team Previews

India

India may have lost a series in South Africa before coming to play against Sri Lanka, they were by no means going to be an easy side to deal with. Going through a changing phase, with a change in leadership as well. Although India's first focus will be on the shorter formats with a couple of World Cups approaching in the next two years, they will be taking this upcoming match pretty sincerely keeping their position in World Test Championship in mind.

It was the first time in the last 11 years that India were without their marquee players in Chetershwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. Despite that, however, their absence wasn't really felt with Ravindra Jadeja playing a gigantic knock. Apart from him too, we saw decent knocks from Virat Kohli, Hanuma Vihari, and Rishabh Pant.

Along with India's batting that appears to be in safe hands regardless of the conditions, the bowling looks settled too. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami are excellent fast bowlers capable to fetch wickets in any condition. Even though the surface might not assist spinners as much as it did at Mohali, Rav Jadeja and Ashwin have a massive role to play. The only change we can imagine is Mohammad Siraj replacing Jayant Yadav, because of the conditions more than anything else.

All in all, India have all their bases covered and would be looking for nothing less than a 2-0 series win going into the upcoming contest. They have all the resources available on paper and if they are not complacent in the upcoming match or do not produce any shocking performance, they should cruise through to their second win of the series.

India Playing 11

Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, H Vihari, V Kohli, RR Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, JJ Bumrah.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka were never the favorites to win a match in India, let alone the series and the proceedings of the first match, and thereafter hasn't helped them either. They were decimated within the three days in the opening test and with a couple of important players unavailable, they will have a steep hill to climb if they want to come out on top in the upcoming contest.

In the first match, they did appear to be fighting well at some points before losing the initiative rather quickly. Having said that, apart from a few moments there wasn't a lot they could cheer about in that match. The knocks from a few batsmen were positive but they will need a lot more than that.

On the bowling front, they looked good in patches on a surface that had practically nothing to offer for the bowlers. Lasith Embuldeniya did well against Indian bowlers. With Dushmanta Chameera absent from their attack, their bowler has taken a big hit already.

All in all, Sri Lanka have a capable side that can trouble even the best. However, they have not fired in unison lately and will need to get that right. If they can take care of the execution part, they can be a tough customer, especially in conditions that can be a bit unpredictable.
