IND vs WI Match Prediction - Dec 15, 2019

India won the T20 series in a resounding manner after having been pushed to the wall by a very good West Indian team. It brings great joy to see a strong and vibrant West Indian team take the field with almost all of its best players available for international cricket.

The visitors now have a tougher task ahead of them as they get ready to play the ODI series. India is an ODI behemoth led by the best ODI batsman of all-time and vice-captained by another who will end as an ODI great.

The West Indies managed to blank out the Afghans 3-0 in India a few weeks ago but India is going to be a whole different challenge. Can the aggressive approach of the West indies work over the 50 overs format? Will their ODI specialists make a difference? Let’s find out.

India vs West Indies 1st ODI 2019 is going to be played at the MS Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on the 15th of December 2019.

IND vs WI Team Previews

India

There is an air of complete dominance about this Indian that is hard to shake. Whatever the format, whatever the venue, and whoever the opposition, India is expected to win. This is especially true when India is playing at home.

It cannot take things for granted, though, as the West Indies has shown a stomach for the fight.

India is going to be missing Shikhar Dhawan for this series and so a change at the top is likely. Lokesh Rahul has been in spectacular form in the T20 format and will once again be given the chance to open with Rohit Sharma.

We don’t think Mayank Aggarwal is going to get a chance just yet.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the kings of 50 over batting. They are in good form and only a brave man is going to bet against them scoring a ton of runs in this series. Shreyas Iyer should have the number four position locked down in ODI’s after which the team selection starts to get interesting.

Rishab Pant, Manish Pandey, Shivam Dube, and Kedar Jadhav are in a fight to cement their places in the side.

We think India is going to start with Rishab Pant and Manish Pandey for the first match with the others getting an opportunity if the need arises.

Ravindra Jadeja will lock up the all-rounder’s position at 7 and be followed by the four bowlers. It looks like India is going to play just one spinner, probably Yuzvendra Chahal, for this match, followed by Mohammad Shami, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar as the three pacers.

This is a very strong side that is going to take some stopping.

India Playing 11

Lokesh Rahul, Rohit Sharma, V Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, RR Pant, Kedar Jadhav, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami.

West Indies

Some important West Indian players are going to be joining the side for the ODI leg of the tour. Shai Hope, Roston Chase, and Alzarri Joseph are the players that are going to be integral to the performance of the West Indian side in India.

Shai Hope is the most consistent ODI batsman for the West Indies in recent times and one of the few that scores centuries on a regular basis. Roston Chase also has a good record against India and will play an all-round role in the series to come.

We expect the West Indian batting to feature Brandon King and Evin Lewis at the top followed by Shai Hope, although King could miss out if Pollard wants to bolster his bowling attack a bit.

Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase, and Kieron Pollard actually make a very good batting lineup. The improvement in Kieron Pollard’s batting in recent times has been tremendous and we think he can make a big impact in the 50 over format as well.

Seeing him bat higher up the order where he has other dependable batsmen around him is something we hope to see.

This talented West Indian batting is very capable of making life difficult for the Indian bowling which is going to be missing some of its best players.

The real challenge for the West Indians is going to come in the bowling department. Sheldon Cottrell, Alzarri Joseph, and Hayden Walsh seem like sure starters for the first match, with Roston Chase and Jason Holder as the all-round bowling options.

Keemo Paul is also a good option to have because of his ability to bowl at the death and score handy runs with the bat.

This is not a weak West Indian side by any account and quite capable of causing a few upsets in this series.

West Indies Playing 11

Shai Hope, SW Ambris, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase, Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Keemo Paul, Hayden Walsh, Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell.

IND vs WI Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want field first to hopefully take advantage of better batting conditions under the lights.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

A warm and humid day has been forecast in Chennai on match day but there is almost no chance of rain predicted. That usually means tough conditions for the fielding side upfront but the dew in the night is going to make it worth it.

The MS Chidambaram has thrown up some real spin-friendly surfaces in the recent past and could do the same again. Hopefully, the groundsman will not go overboard and allow a good battle between the bat and ball.

A score of around 260-280 can be considered par batting first looking at the batting strength in both the sides.

IND vs WI Betting Tips

India is a world-class batting team and much more experienced than the West Indies side. It responds well when pushed and is very difficult to beat in home conditions. The surface at Chennai is one that should particularly favor the home team.

Bet on India to win.
