About the Match
India and Australia are playing a seven match ODI series, the first of which is scheduled to be played at Pune on 13th October. After a close win in yesterday’s lone T20 match
of the series, India has definitely got the edge going into the ODI matches. Most of the Aussies were recently here for the Champions League and the only T20 they played and hence they are familiar with the local conditions and the crowd response, especially in known territories like Jaipur, Mohali and Ranchi that were venues in recent matches of CL. Both teams have a talented pool of players who have done exceptionally well this year and will try and win the match. It’ll be an interesting match and with the weather expected to be favorable, we are sure to be treated with an exciting Sunday afternoon.
It’s been a dream comeback for Yuvraj Singh and his brilliant score of 77 off just 35 balls in the T20 match won it for Team India. Strewn with sixes and fours, he took control and successfully reached the target of 201 runs set by the Aussies. Shikhar, with support from Raina and Kohli tried to build the innings failed to continue the momentum. It was then left to Yuvraj who had been sharpening his blade to accomplish ever since he made it to the squad. Bhuvneshwar and Vinay were in the best of form taking 3 wickets each earlier on but the others couldn’t stop the flurry of runs. The team is filled with hard hitters who mean business and baffle the bowlers whenever at the crease and accomplished bowlers like Ishant, Bhuvneshwar, Ashwin, Mishra and Vinay who have done very well in recent matches. Dhoni with his experience and leadership skills will strategize well to give a tough battle to the Aussies. This team is definitely a formidable one and will be difficult to defeat especially in the home terrain.
Aussies have not been doing well as a team for quite some time in Tests, having lost to arch rivals England, but in shorter format they have been brilliant. Many experienced and seasoned players have retired and lot of the responsibility will be on Captain Bailey looking for support from established players like Finch, Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson and Brad to guide the younger players. In the first outing of the series, Finch single-handedly put up a massive 201 runs scoring 89 off 52 balls. The team has good fast bowlers but lacks in spinners which is essential for the conditions in the subcontinent. Though McKay, Coulter-Nile and Doherty did get wickets, the bowling department couldn’t make serious damage to the home team. Bailey has a challenging task at hand and the team needs to come out with all guns blazing to put up a good performance.
The Australian team is in the process of building a good team for 2015 and this series will definitely test the young players who are new to the Indian conditions; it will take some time for them to pose a real threat to an established team like India. Considering the quality, experience and depth in batting line up as well as the variety in bowling, India looks well placed to emerge victorious.
India, 1.53 @ Bovada
Rohit Sharma failed to impress in the T20 game, but he looked good till he was in the middle. Shikhar Dhawan played a short but important cameo. Australia will see new pair of openers for ODIs, but is expected to be as aggressive as in the only T20. I expect Aussies to score more runs in the first 15 Overs only due to their aggressive top order.
