About the Match
After a thumping victory over India by 72 runs in the 1st ODI
, the visitors will now face the home team for the 2nd ODI at Jaipur on 16th October. Leading 1-0, the Aussies have demonstrated superb pace attack and batting prowess and will be hungry for more wins. Team India failed to step up their game and will have to put this defeat behind them and pull up their socks to come out strongly in this match. The contest will be an interesting one and needs to be seen if the Aussies continue to dominate or will India take this one home safely.
It was a dismal performance by the team; bowlers gave away too many runs and the batsmen failed under pressure. The bowlers lacked discipline and couldn’t make early in-roads into the opponents’ batting line-up and by the time Jadeja got his break, the openers had already built a strong foundation. Though Yuvraj and Ashwin got 2 wickets each with support from Vinay and Ishant, they failed to restrict the Aussie batsmen. The batsmen couldn’t keep their wickets especially against the fast bowlers; after the quick dismissal of Dhawan, Kohli and Sharma took charge in the run chase and contributed 61 and 42 respectively with some support from Raina’39 runs. However, the middle order collapsed like a pack of cards and showed no might whatsoever, mustering up only 232 runs in its answer to a total of 304 runs. The team has to tighten its bowling and also sharpen its batting skills going into this match and make a comeback.
The Aussies proved beyond doubt that they are a team of class batsmen and extraordinary bowlers by scoring a huge 72 run victory over India. The openers got off to a good start putting up 110-run partnership with Hughes’ contribution of 47 off 53 balls. Finch kept the scoreboard ticking with a superb 72 off 79 balls that saw 8 fours and 3 sixes. Bailey’s quick singles and two’s and 10 fours was a treat to watch as he put up a brilliant score of 85 off 82 balls. With help from the lower order, the Captain made sure his bowlers had a strong defendable total on the board and it was more than that. The exceptional bowling by Faulkner who claimed 3 wickets proved too much for the home team and the Aussies kept the pressure on with some incredible bowling by Shane Watson, McKay and Mitchell Johnson who not only took important wickets but also made it difficult for the Indians to keep up with the run rate. The Aussies dominated throughout the game and will look to continue the momentum in the series.
India has learnt some bitter lessons and will try to improve its performance and stay focused going into this match. Australia will not be far behind and will not give any room for India to take away their advantage. The pitch conditions in Jaipur are expected to be more favourable for batting and whichever team succeeds in taking quick wickets, will have a definite edge. Australia look strong in all departments of the game, but India is looking positive to make a comeback and win this match.
India, 1.61 @ Bovada
Australian opening pair is young, energetic and aggressive. Contrary to Indian openers, they have shown some encouraging form with the bat. Considering the above fact, I think Australia would once again score more runs than India in the first 15 Overs.
