About the Match
After clinching a win in the last game, Australia now leads the series by 2-1 now moves to Ranchi to play fourth match of the series. It was a close finish to a nail-biting match that saw many highs and lows for both the teams. The home team’s lack of a quality death bowler came to haunt them once again, when the Aussie tail-enders smashed away sixes and fours in the last 3 overs, winning the match with three balls to spare. Team India has to find answers to improve its bowling attack whereas Australia will look to continue with their brilliant performance in all spheres of the game going into this match. The upcoming match is sure to see both sides lock horns and they will try to dominate with their batting.
The Captain cool stood his ground in the company of Kohli when the openers and most of the middle order collapsed against the famed Australian pace attack. With his unbeaten 139 off 121 balls, he rescued the team from dire straits when India was struggling at 76-4. Dhoni’s brilliant knock saw him become the third highest scorer batting at No.6 and his efforts saw India putting up a good total of 303 runs. It was up to the bowlers to defend this huge target and they did find success as they took wickets at regular pace and kept the pressure on the Aussies. Though Vinay got 2 wickets and Ishant, Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar claimed a wicket each, they couldn’t make much of a dent on the opponents’ spirit who fought hard to reach the target. Too many runs were given away towards the end and when Ishant was smashed away for 30 runs in the 48th over, Australia had already snatched the game away. The result was too disheartening for the Indian team and they need to come back stronger going into the next match.
Johnson’s superb figures of 4-46 gave the required impetus to the Aussies as they opted to field first in yesterday’s match and with support from others who made early in-roads into the Indian batting line-up, the Aussies looked strong to win the contest. They demolished the Indian batsmen, except for Dhoni, restricting the home team to 303 runs. The Australian chase started off well but the pressure mounted on them in the middle of the innings. However, Bailey and Voges provided the much needed boost to the chase with scores of 43 and 76 runs respectively. At one stage, it looked like the Aussies would lose the match with 44 required from the last 3 overs; however, Faulkner blasted away sixes and fours putting up a massive 64 from 29 balls leading the team to victory. The Aussies are charged up and will look to repeat their performance once again on Wednesday.
It was a disappointing loss for India in the 3rd ODI and the home team will want to make amends here. Australia will look to dominate yet again and will put up a tough battle at Ranchi. The match could go either way but India’s troubles are far from over unless they find some bite to their bowling attack. It will be an uphill task to win against the visitors but will emerge victorious to make a comeback into the series.
