About the Match
India is back with a bang into the series as they levelled with Australia 2-2 after a thumping victory yesterday by 6 wickets. Now the series is nicely poised and all three results possible with last match to be played at Bangalore on 2nd November. Earlier, the match was power packed with brilliant performances by the batsmen from both sides with 700 runs being during the match. This is the second time the home team successfully reached the massive target of 350 runs in this series and became the first team to emerge victorious twice chasing such a huge total. With the final match being the decider, Bangalore is set to witness an amazing contest on Saturday as both sides lock horns to take the title.
The young brigade riding on Kohli’s ton did it again for the team as he scored his 17th ODI century by smashing an unbeaten 115 runs off 66 balls. He kept his cool and ensured that India didn’t lose the plot with great support from the other end by Dhawan who scored a brilliant century off 102 balls and later on by Dhoni with whom Kohli put up a 61 run partnership for the 5th wicket. Earlier on, Rohit Sharma and Dhawan built a strong foundation as they put up a 178 run partnership proving their mettle and determination to keep the team’s hopes alive. The bowlers struggled to restrict the Aussie run flow, especially by Bailey, who exploited their weakness in the death overs. Kumar and Ashwin struck early by taking the wickets of the Aussie openers but the bowling unit collectively failed to stop the likes of Watson and Bailey who went on to put such a massive total. However, the batsmen did their job yet again and the team looks very confident going into the final match.
Australian openers struggled against the Indian spin as they fell quickly after putting up 45 runs. The story changed when Bailey and Watson took charge and put up a 168 run partnership, smashing away the Indian bowlers for sixes and fours comfortably. The duo played responsibly and Bailey with his 156 off 114 balls and Watson’s 102 off 94 balls saw Australia moving towards a huge total once again. Voges played brilliantly and gave able support to the Captain. The massive target gave the team hopes of sealing the series but the bowlers weren’t able to contain the Indian batsmen who just proved to be too much for them. Johnson, Finch and Faulkner did get wickets but failed to make any serious dent on the opponent’s batting line-up and had no answers for Kohli and Dhoni in the end. With the series tied at the moment, the visitors will come up with a better strategy to take the title home.
It will be a contest between the batting giants from both sides as the bowlers find it tough to keep pace with the new ODI rules and flat decks. Both India and Australia have seen incredible performances from all departments of the game, however the team that keeps its nerves together at the end will emerge victorious. Players from both teams are in great form and are hungry to win the series for their respective countries; however, it will be difficult for Australia to beat the home team especially with the recent surge in the Indians’ confidence.
India, 1.57 @ William Hill
After having a dream start in the tournament, Australian opening pair has not been able to score well in last few matches. In contrast to that, Indian openers have amassed plenty of runs with two century stands to their name. I think that Indian openers would continue their astonishing run due to absence of Mitchell Johnson helped by absolutely flat pitch.
