About the Match
After a short yet exhilarating spell of T20s in Champions League, we are back to International stage with India hosting Australia. The Aussies will be in India for an ODI and Test Match series kick-starting with the only T20I on 10th October at 7:30pm IST which will be played at Rajkot. The new stadium hosted the 1st ODI match between India and England in Jan 2013. It’s expected to be a day of scattered thunder storms as per the weather man but hopefully without much of a downpour as witnessed during the recent Champions League matches. Players from Indian team have been playing a lot of T20 cricket recently and it’s a continuation for them whereas the Australian players who were also a part of the CL tournament, either as part of the Brisbane Heat or Perth Scorchers, were out of the tournament after the league though some of the players were part of the finalists. Hence both the teams have players who were in good nick recently.
Skipper Dhoni is one of the senior-most players along with Yuvraj and Mishra who have made it back to the squad owing to superb domestic display and rest are in their 20s and that should indicate their alertness in the field. Except for 3-4 players who did not play much of cricket in the shorter version of the game at international level, all have very good experience of facing international level opponents. Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma all are in good form, especially, Rohit, whose brilliant score played a lead role in Mumbai Indians lifting the Champions league trophy by defeating the Royals in the final of CLT20. Yuvraj earned his place in the squad after some tremendous displays against West Indies A, and is sure to flex his muscles in the middle order, in the company of Kohli. The younger players, who have just joined the national squad, will try and prove their worth, in the opportunity they got, whereas the established players would love to continue with their excellent form.
This team had their latest T20I series against England in Aug 13, which ended up in a tie between the two rivals. Finch’s superb batting prowess won them the first match against the English with an excellent contribution by the bowlers like Mitchell Johnson and Faulkner. Shane Watson has proved his all-round capabilities not only against England but also in the Champions League, being instrumental in the steady success of his team Rajasthan Royals. Many of the players in the squad are over 30 years, but fielding is still one of their strongest suites. Coulter, Faulkner and Mitchell Johnson are in nice form and are expected to be treated with respect by the Indian batsmen and Captain Bailey has been in good nick himself and would love to guide his team to victory, be it with his batting or captaincy.
Australia is in the process of building their team for the shorter and longer versions of the game after losing very badly the Ashes series and not performing well in the international engagements. However, they bounced back strongly in limited overs cricket and is a powerful lineup. India has seasoned players and is expected to keep up the winning trend. I think it’s going to be an exciting match, with the result in favor of the home team.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were in fabulous form in recently concluded CLT20. While Dhawan batted and provided Sunrisers with a brilliant start, Rohit Sharma’s batting was exceptional and instrumental in their title win. With Indian openers in such fine form and Rajkot’s surface being excellent for batting, I think Indian openers will score more than Kangaroos with a wicket down.
