About the Match
India had an excellent fourth day of the test match and have taken some huge strides towards winning this match. Bangladesh though still have seven wickets in hand including some of their best batsmen to see out the day. Here is what we think will happen.
5th Day Preview
India had a couple of goals in front of them before the fourth day began and they managed to accomplish all of them. They managed to bowl Bangladesh out early, secure a big lead and then take a few important wickets before the close of play.
The fact that Ashwin and Jadeja were the ones to share the three wickets between them would make the visitors very wary. The pitch is by no means a minefield, although there were signs of spin. Contrary to the first innings, Ashwin got use of the hard new ball and was able to get some extra bounce and quick spin of the surface.
It will be very interesting to see if he can do the same thing tomorrow once the ball goes soft as well.
We think Ravindra Jadeja will be the bowler to watch out for on Day 5 and would advise a bet on him being the top wicket-taker in the innings. Umesh Yadav will also play an important role once the ball starts to get a little older and reverse swing comes into play.
For Bangladesh, winning is out of the question but getting away with a draw is very possible. The big question here though is whether their batsmen have the application to bat out an entire day without trying anything extravagant.
We only need to look as back as Bangladesh’s last test series where they threw away a golden opportunity to bat for a draw and ended up losing.
Shakib Al Hassan and Mahmudallah are on the crease at the moment with Mushfiqur Rahim to follow. The players after that are not the best batsmen and so we think Bangladesh only needs to lose a couple of wickets before the wheels come off entirely.
The Indian bowlers will keep on prowling and have shown that they have the necessary skill to extract life from a relatively lifeless surface.
Back Shakib Al Hassan to get the highest score in this innings because we don’t think the other batsmen will last long enough. India will think they are in the game even if Bangladesh manage to get through the first two sessions without losing more than two wickets because losing batsmen in quick succession is always a possibility on the last day.
Virat Kohli will want nothing less than victory from his bowlers while Mushfiqur Rahim will want desperately to deprive India of that pleasure. There is no love lost between Rahim and the Indian team and so motivation is one thing that will not be lacking.
It is our opinion that this match will go into the last session of the day but Bangladesh will not be able to hold on for a draw. Back India to win.
