About the Match
Winning the ODI series 3-2 against India, South Africa is looking forward to the upcoming test series, with the 1st Test match scheduled to start on 5th November at Mohali. Although the hosts struggled against the Proteas in the recent ODI series, they definitely will be eager to start the 4-match test series with a win here. South Africa on the other hand look well prepared to transition from the success in limited overs cricket to the challenges ahead in the longer format of the game; it needs to be seen which team can consolidate its resources, strategize well on the field and come out trumps in a test of perseverance and skill next week.
Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shikhar Dhawan will feature in the top order of the Indian batting line-up; they have good skills with the bat and will need to stabilize the innings to provide a good foundation. Youngster Lokesh Rahul is in good form and will be eager to showcase his talent here; Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Wriddhiman Saha, Ajinkya Rahane and Stuart Binny will use their experience to provide momentum to the innings and look good to come out all guns blazing.
The bowling department will see Ravichandran Ashwin making it back to the squad after recovering from injury; Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder will also be returning with his spin bowling and will be a good batting asset in the middle order. Varun Aaron and Ishant Sharma along with Umesh Yadav will try to outwit the opposition with their pace attack while Amit Mishra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Binny will provide variety and depth.
Kohli has been successful in leading the side against Sri Lanka recently and will try to make good use of his experience in the upcoming series; they have a talented lot of batsmen and bowlers, which with the home advantage can give India the upper hand.
Hashim Amla will lead the side confidently after the recent victories; his deputy, AB de Villiers has been in a smashing form and will definitely come out with his superpower skills here too. Faf du Plessis has been in good nick with the bat while players like Stiaan van Zyl, JP Duminy and Dean Elgar will be vital in the batting line-up against the Indians.
Imran Tahir, the spin specialist has been successful in these conditions while the young Kagiso Rabada will be instrumental in dismissing the tough Indian batsmen. Dale Steyn has found success recently and along with Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander and Temba Bavuma, they are definitely looking strong to demolish the opposition.
Overall, Amla and company are looking well placed to overcome the Indian challenge and continue with their winning momentum by sticking to basics, which has been their competitive advantage till now.
While India is on the back-foot with the series loss recently in the one-day format, they will be working hard to bounce back in the tests; South Africa is a mighty team with several match-winners but we feel that the men in blue will finally pull up their socks to win the upcoming match much largely due to the spin factor coming into the Mohali wicket
