About the Match
South Africa won the ODI series against India 2-0, with the 3rd match being washed out by rains as India once again failed to keep the South African batsmen in check. The home side posted a total of 301 runs in the first innings and looked confident of winning the contest when the match was abandoned due to the showers; though India bowling looked a bit sharper than the previous performances, the batsmen were denied a chance to play and try to win the last match of the series. The upcoming test matches will be a difficult challenge for the visitors as they look to redeem themselves here by putting up a better performance; whereas South Africa is looking confident to repeat their excellent performances in the Test series too.
The batsmen once again put up a tremendous show as Quinton and AB de Villiers scored centuries with ease and helped the team post 301 runs in the first innings of the 3rd ODI match. Miller also contributed with the bat, scoring 56 runs from 34 deliveries and the team looked very strong for another win; though the match was abandoned due to rains, the hosts won the series convincingly by 2-0. The upcoming test on Wednesday will see the hosts repeating their excellence with both bat and ball; players like Smith, Kallis, Amla, AB de Villiers, Plessis and Alviro Petersen bring their experience and superb skills to the table whereas established bowlers like Steyn, Philander, Morkel, Imran Tahir and Robin Peterson form a deadly bowling attack that will have the opponents looking for cover. This team is a fierce side which will give its best to prove why it’s the number one Test team in the world.
It’s been a disappointing series for the Indians so far and the defeat in the ODI series came as a big blow to the side that boasts of world class players. India has to pull up its socks and prove to the world and themselves that they can be a formidable side to reckon with, even away from home. The batting specialists like Kohli, Pujara, Dhawan, Sharma and Murali Vijay need to provide the strong foundation that will help them overcome the South African attack. They need to find their rhythm once again and play as a team; Zaheer Khan has been included in the side and along with Ashwin Ravichandran and Ishant Sharma, will look forward to putting up some great performances here. Shami has been doing well and Ojha, Jadeja and the youngsters will also be keen to win it for their team. With a positive attitude, the team can make a comeback in this series with a win.
South Africa has so far proved to be too good for the Indians; will they be able to keep up the pressure on the visitors or will the team in blue turn it around in their favour. While the match could go either way; this looks like a comeback game for India and though the home side has the advantage, the visitors look good to win the first test with their determination to succeed and good run in the longer format. With such high odds for them, I would certainly bet on them as they aren’t as bad as they performed in ODI series.
