About the Match
Winning the 2nd T20 by 6 wickets, South Africa took the series 2-0 against India; the two teams will face each other in the 3rd T20 match at Kolkata on 8th Oct. Although the upcoming contest is just a formality, India will be eager to redeem itself with a face-saving win here; South Africa on the other hand will not stop from dominating the hosts yet again and try to make it a clean series whitewash with a win on Thursday.
Rohit Sharma couldn’t continue with his brilliance with the bat and was run-out at 22; so was Kohli, getting out for just 1 run. Suresh Raina failed to read Tahir and the entire top order buckled out for just 45 runs on board. The middle order did no better with Rayudu, Dhoni and Patel getting out for single digits; with 4 duck-outs in the innings, India was all-out for just 92 runs, a feat that upset te crowd too.
The bowlers had an impossible task at hand but Ashwin surprised with quick wickets as he registered 3-24; Patel took a wicket while Raina and Harbhajan assisted well by bowling economically. However, there was too little to fight for and they lost the match miserably.
The batsmen performed dismally and they will need to bounce back here to salvage some pride; they have a good bowling attack but without runs on board, it will be difficult for them to outwit the well-set Proteans.
Albie Morkel struck early and removed key wickets in the lower middle order of the Indian batting line-up; his 3-12 pressurised the hosts from bouncing back to set up a competitive total on board. Morris and Tahir picked up 2 wickets each to demolish the famed Indian top order; they were supported well by Rabada who took a wicket and bowled economically to make life difficult for the opponents.
With just 93 to get for a series win, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis combined their strengths to start the chase well but it was Duminy’s unbeaten 30 along with Behardien and David Miller’s support that took the team safely home with 17 balls to spare.
They have been consistent in all departments of the game and excelled on the field too; while the visitors have been tasting success right from the start, they will be cautious against a hurt home side, who will leave no stone unturned to win the upcoming game.
With a series win already in their bag, South Africa will go into the next match with nothing to lose and will exude confidence on the field; India on the other hand is playing for pride and they will try to bounce back with a much-needed win that will bolster their morale ahead of the ODI series starting thereafter. It could be anybody’s game on Thursday but we feel that the men in blue will conquer their weaknesses and win the contest
