About the Match
India clinched a series win 2-0 after winning the third test by 124 runs, putting an end to South Africa’s 9-year dream run of not losing a test series away from home; the two teams will meet each other for the 4th and final test of the series at Delhi from 3rd December. The Proteas will fight hard for their honour while India will try to consolidate their superb show with another victory at the nation’s capital. The hosts are super charged to make it a clean sweep while the South African contingent will definitely put up a tougher challenge in their last effort to overcome the men in blue.
R Ashwin’s 12-wicket haul helped the team win the third test match hands-down; he was phenomenal in both the innings, taking 5 wickets in the first to demolish the opposition along with Jadeja, who took 4 quickies and got the visitors all-out for a humiliating 79 runs. Ashwin came back in the second innings to claim 7 wickets at an economy of little more than 2 runs per over; along with Amit Mishra, who took 3 scalps, he restricted South Africa to 185 in reply to the huge target of 310 runs.
The spinners have been in great form and Ashwin is a vital asset to the team; Jadeja and Mishra have been performing well and they provide depth to the attack. The fast bowlers like Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav will have to strategize well against the visitors in order to keep the pressure on. Varun Aaron has been successful recently and must bring all the firepower to contain the opponent.
The batting line-up looks good with Murali Vijay and Pujara having contributed well in the top-order while Dhawan showed improvement in the recent outing; Kohli hasn’t been on top of his game but definitely looks determined to do well on his home ground. Rahane and Rohit Sharma need to stay focused in the middle order and try to build solid partnerships when required; overall, they are a tough unit to crack on home turf and will surely provide some fireworks over the weekend.
Simon Harmer yet again proved his skills with the ball as he took a total of 5 wickets, creating a few upsets for the hosts in the third test match; along with Imran Tahir, Duminy and Dean Elgar, the Proteans can definitely outwit the Indian batsmen in the upcoming match.
MorneMorkel took 6 wickets in the last match and will lead the pace attack; he will have support from KagisoRabada, who can stifle the opposition with his disciplined bowling. South Africa will have to up its ante if they want to restrict India, who are confident to come out all guns blazing.
With the bat, HashimAmla, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis must use their experience to build a strong foundation for the team; Duminy and others down the line must focus on finishing strong, which wasn’t the case in the recent matches. The Indian bowlers are in tremendous form and the Proteans will need to think positive and hold their nerves together in the upcoming contest.
While South Africa lacks in experienced players barring a few, they definitely have the talent to fight back harder here. India on the other hand has already won the series and will leave no stone unturned to outwit the visitors; we feel the hosts will once again sail to a comfortable win
