The first ODI for India Women since the lockdown ended up being a huge wake-up call for India. South Africa Women have been playing regularly, including a tough series against Pakistan just recently, and the difference showed. India was no match for South Africa in the first match and it will have to dramatically improve its performances to compete in the second ODI.
There are five ODI matches scheduled to be played between the two teams and so any result is not going to decide the result just yet but losing this match will leave India in the tough position of having to win three matches in a row.
South Africa will not want to change anything and continue in the same fashion that it played the last time around.
India Women vs South Africa Women 2nd ODI is going to be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on the 9th of March 2021.
India needs to get its act together after a terrible first match in which the rust clearly showed. Players were unable to convert their starts and the bowlers kept dishing out freebies one after the other.
The fact that this match was being played at home is going to hurt the Indian Women even more.
Jemimah Rodriguez was the only batter that was out without facing too many deliveries and that is a positive that India can take. All the other players spent some time at the crease before being getting ou and that will serve them well in his next match.
Unfortunately, the captaincy of Mithali Raj is also to blame. Her brand of cricket is now outdated. She bats well but her thinking is too conservative. Faced with the only option with taking wickets, she opted to keep her best bowler back until the batters were already well set.
India’s bowling is decent with Jhulan Goswami, Poonam Yadav, Rajeshwari Gaekwad and Deepti Sharma. This team, though, is aging and there seems to be an overhaul headed its way.
Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Punam Raut, Sushma Verma, Poonam Yadav, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Jhulan Goswami, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Mansi Joshi.
There is nothing that South Africa can do to improve the result that it managed to achieve in the previous match. It was utter and complete domination!
Shabnim Ismail continued her fantastic form and picked up three wickets while Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, and N Mlaba were all in the wickets as well. Sune Luus and Nadine de Klerk are all very good bowlers as well giving South Africa an excellent bowling attack.
Traditionally, this bowling attack could have been expected to struggle in spin-friendly conditions but their performance in the first match was right on the money.
Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt basically scored all the runs so no one else had any work to do. We do worry about judging the South African lineup from just this one performance, though.
Lizelle Lee is very unpredictable and Laura Wolvaardt can struggle on slow pitches. A couple of early wickets could set the cat among the pigeons and it can be difficult to score runs against the spinners once you start falling behind.
Lizelle Lee, Laura Wolvaardt, Sune Luus, Lara Goodall, Mignon du Preez, Marizanne Kapp, Nadine de Klerk, Trisha Chetty, Shabnim Ismail, Ayabonga Khaka, Nonkululeko Mlaba.
Winning the toss and batting first is a big advantage even though India did not make use of that in the previous match. The team that wins the toss can be expected to want to bat first.

The weather conditions in Lucknow are good for cricket. The sun is expected to be out and there should be no interruptions to stop play. The pitch was flat and good for batting. If anything, it did not take enough as much spin as the spinners would have liked.
We think the pitch will be a bit slower in this match and offer a bit more help to the spinners.
It is not wise to judge a team on just one outing. We don’t think India is as bad as it appeared in the first match and South Africa is not as good. Now that the cobwebs have been dusted off, India should come back stronger in this match.
South Africa has a better bowling attack but its batting is vulnerable. We are backing India to capitalize on these weaknesses in this match.
