Indian women started their series against South Africa women with a close-fought win in the first T20 international. That match was the first of five T20 internationals that the South African team is going to be playing and so there is plenty of time to make a comeback.
It was pretty obvious from the performances in the first match that the difference between the two sides is not too much and we can expect a hard-fought series till the very end.
India’s spinners turned out to be the difference and will be the biggest test for the South Africans in the upcoming matches as well.
India women vs South Africa women 2nd T20 international 2019 is going to be played at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat on the 26th of September 2019.
Being put into bat first was probably a tough decision to begin with because it was an unknown surface but it turned out to be a blessing in the end. India’s batting did not perform as per expectations and struggled to a total of 130 in their allotted overs.
The bulk of the scoring was done by Harmanpreet Kaur who looked in very good touch with a few starts from the others in the batting lineup. Smriti Mandhana was also very fluent at the top of the order and we woud not be surprised to see a big score from her very soon.
Jemimah Rodriguez, Deepti Sharma, and Veda Krishnamurthy also got some important starts before throwing their wickets away.
There was a lot talk about young Shafali Verma making her debut at the age of 15 but she was unable to get off the mark in her first match. That is nothing to be disappointed about, though, as another famous teenager debutant from India can attest!
India’s bowling was very good with perhaps the exception of Pooja Vatsrakar’s only over.
Shikha Pandey, Poonam Yadav, and Radha Yadav all took two wickets each while Deepti Sharma managed the brilliant figures of four overs three maidens eight runs and three wickets. To bowl three maidens in a T20 international is just brilliant and shows the kind of control she was able to keep over the opposition.

Given an option, we think the South Africa women’s team would have taken chasing 130 before the match had started. They bowled quite well and kept taking wickets at important intervals. Shabnim Ismail and Nadine de Klerk were the pick of the bowlers but the others did a good job as well.
Ayabonga Khaka was also very good during her four-over spell and is an excellent addition to the South African team.
The spinners in the South African team are not as good as the Indian spinners and that is something that is going to hamper the South Africans throughout this tour of India.
The faster bowlers are not going to be able to take wickets in clumps in the Indian conditions and thus the South African batting is always going to have to compensate for these shortcomings.
Lizelle Lee started very well at the top of the order but was not able to convert her start into anything more significant. Laura Wolvaardt and Mignon du Preez were the only other batters that were able to get into double figures.
The South African batters are going to be faced with a lot of spin and they must find better ways to score against them. Currently, it looks as if a lot of the batters are having trouble rotating the strike and taking the pressure off.
This means that big shots remain the only option available to them which is a strategy filled with risk.

India women vs South Africa women 2nd T20 international 2019 is going to be played at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat on the 26th of September 2019. There is a lot of rain predicted in Surat not just for match day but for the forthcoming week. We just have to pray that the rain relents during the time that the match is going to be played.
The pitch is slow and helpful for the spinners. The lack of sun during the day means that the surface is only going to get more difficult to score on as the series progresses.
The Indian side is very hard to beat in home conditions. It has superior spinners and a powerful batting lineup.
