IRE vs ZIM Match Prediction - Jul 12, 2019

It was not just first semi-final in the World Cup that was impacted by the thundershowers in the European region. The first T20I between Ireland and Zimbabwe suffered a more severe fate as the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. The two teams are set to face each other once again, for the second time in the series, on 12th July at Bready Cricket Club Ground, Bready. Ireland was the stronger side in the ODI series by a fair margin as far as the series scoreline is concerned. Having said that, the visitors were inches away from finishing the better team on two out of the three occasions. They'd try to bridge the gap in the shortest version of the game and considering their improvement over the matches on this tour; the T20I series is expected to be a lot closer.

IRE vs ZIM Team Previews

Ireland

While Ireland won the ODI series quite convincingly, they haven't been going through a form to remember in T20s. Of the last five completed matches, they've won just one - which too was three games ago, excluding that win.

Ireland displayed a brilliant exhibition of their skills in the first ODI as they cruised past an uncertain looking Zimbabwe side. Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie looked in superb touch during the ODI series, and they both were well complemented by Kevin O'Brien. Kevin O'Brien was promoted to open the innings against Afghanistan and fortunately for the Irishmen, the experiment paid off. He is expected to open the innings yet again along with Paul Stirling.

With overcast overhead conditions and surface too suited for fast bowling, Ireland has a perfect bowling attack. The likes of Boyd Rankin, Joshua Little, Mark Adair, and George Dockrell complete their bowling covering all variations. They have a varied as well as an experienced bowling attack capable of destroying any batting unit on their day. Ireland appears to be a solid side and will undoubtedly be tough to get past on Friday.

Zimbabwe

Before the first T20I was abandoned due to rain, the Zimbabweans suffered a 2-0 and 3-0 defeat at the hands of Netherlands and Ireland respectively in the ODI series. They somehow managed to level the T20I series against Netherlands which too, at one stage, appeared to be going downhill for the visitors.

In recent past, Zimbabwe has done a lot better in the shortest version of the game as compared to the ODI format. The primary reason for that has been the consistency of their batsmen where Craig Ervine has been in great form since the beginning of the year. In 2019 he's scored 416 in just eight matches at an average of over 83 including two fifties at a healthy strike-rate.

With the ball, however, Zimbabwe has not been as clinical as they'd have liked. While the likes of Tendai Chatara and Kyle Jarvis have done reasonably well, they have lacked ample support from the other bowlers. The same was apparent in their series against Netherlands as well, and if they can figure out a way to get a few good overs from the rest of their bowlers, they will be a force to deal with.

Zimbabwe Playing 11

Hamilton Masakadza, Ryan Burl, Craig Ervine, BRM Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Peter Moor, Tendai Chatara, Kyle Jarvis, C Mpofu, Richmond Mutumbami.

IRE vs ZIM Betting Tips

Irish cricket fans have so far been pretty lucky with the weather in the series so far. The fact that we have seen only one match being washed out despite it raining cats and dogs. Weather is expected to play hide and seek on Friday, but we should get a game in. With a heavy cloud cover on the cards, it's going to be a tough day for the opening batsmen. Ireland has a steadier batting lineup familiar with the conditions and a bowling lineup suited to bowl in such conditions, both overhead as well as on the surface. We expected them to register their first win in this T20I series on Friday in the second match of the series.
