The West Indies women made very short work of the Ireland women in the first T20 international as they dominated the game from the start. They now have a good opportunity to try and win the series and then press on for a 3-0 result.
We have a feeling that anything less than a clean sweep is going to be very disappointing for the West Indian women and maybe winning one match should be the realistic goal for the Irish women as well. Ireland is a young cricket nation even in the men’s format and so it is not surprising to see the women’s side also struggle during their years of development.
The hosts must try and concentrate on the basics and hope that they can get the West Indies women to make some self-inflicted errors along the way.
The second T20 international between Ireland women and the West Indies women is going to be played at the YMCA Cricket Club, Dublin.
Ireland women suffered a double blow during the first T20 international against the West Indies women. Not only did they suffer a crushing defeat but they also lost the services of Laura Delany, their captain. She was injured in the field and did not end up batting.
With a short turnaround between matches, it is highly unlikely that Delany is going to be available for the rest of this series.
A loss of this nature can destabilize any team but can especially be difficult for a team like Ireland which did not have the bench strength, to begin with. The loss of Laura Delany is going to affect both the batting and bowling, apart from the leadership that she provides in the field.
Kim Garth was the only player in the Ireland women team that had a good game in the previous match. She bowled her four overs for just 19 runs and picked up one wicket as well. She was also the only batter to reach double figures ending on 46 off 55 deliveries.
Not only will Kim Garth continue to feel the pressure in the absence of Laura Delany but she will need to have another brilliant game just to help Ireland women compete. Players like Mary Waldron, Shauna Kavanagh, and Celeste Raack will also need to step and make sure that they are pulling their weight in the side.
The task ahead of Ireland women is tough but T20 cricket lends itself to upsets so not all hope is lost.
Mary Waldron, Gaby Lewis, Kim Garth, Shauna Kavanagh, Una Raymond-Hoey, Rebecca Stokell, Louise Little, Sophie MacMahon, Celeste Raack, Lara Maritz, Anna Kerrison.
The West Indies women are a real force when it comes to T20 cricket. They are blessed with powerful batters, quality all-rounders, and have a set of players that have been together for long enough to gain experience in most conditions.
There is no doubt in our mind that the West Indies team would be disappointed at losing even a single match on this tour.
Stafanie Taylor dominated the opening match with 75 off just 53 runs but there is a lot of quality in the side. Hayley Matthews and Britney Cooper are very good batters and can score runs very quickly as well. Matthews is one player that we would advise punting on in this match. She is the vice-captain of the team, opens the batting, and is extremely destructive once she gets set.
We don’t think she is going to let the Irish bowling go unpunished too often.
Sharmaine Campbelle and Natasha McClean are also very good strikers of the ball to give the batting lineup a very healthy look.
Hayley Matthews is also going to play an important role in the bowling but the leaders of the bowling unit are Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman.
They will be aware that Ireland women are going to be tentative because early wickets are going to spell certain doom for the side. This will allow them to dominate the proceedings from the very first ball.
Hayley Matthews, Britney Cooper, Stafanie Taylor, Shemaine Campbelle, Natasha McLean, Kycia Knight, Karishma Ramharack, Chedean Nation, Shakera Selman, Afy Fletcher, Stacy-Ann King.
The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat first. The conditions are not going to change much during the match and we think batting without scoreboard pressure will be beneficial to both sides.

The 2nd T20 match between Ireland women and West Indies women is going to be played at the YMCA Cricket Club, Dublin. There is some rain predicted on Wednesday, the day of the third T20 but luckily Tuesday is expected to be dry.
We should hopefully be able to have a full game be played without any trouble.
The pitch at the YMCA was a little slow and the outfield is heavy as well. We hope that the grounds staff is able to give the players good conditions to play cricket in. After all, a bigger than expected crowd turned up for the first T20 and a lot of people are expected to come for the rest of the matches as well.
Dream11 team for Ireland women vs West Indies women is clearly going to be dominated by the West Indian women. Having a relatively weak Irish squad allows us to fill up all the big ticket expensive players since it will be balanced by the lesser expensive Irish picks.
Wicketkeeper: We have picked Natasha McClean as the wicketkeeper. She is a much better batter than Kycia Knight although there is a good chance that Knight will be the one standing behind the wickets.
Batters: We have picked the West Indian opening batter, Britney Cooper, and two of the Irish top-order batters, Shauna Kavanagh, and Gaby Lewis as our three batters. The real talent lies in the all-round department and so we have tried to pick players that will get a chance to score runs during the powerplay.
All-rounders: Stafanie Taylor, Hayley Matthews, Kim Garth, and Chinelle Henry are the four all-rounders we have selected for this match. Taylor, Matthews, and Garth were the main points scorers in the previous match. They are the best batters in the teams and proven wicket-takers as well.
Chinelle Henry bats in the middle order and is almost sure to bowl her entire quota of four overs also. These are the four players that could make or break this Dream11 team.
Bowlers: Shakera Selman had an excellent bowling outing as she picked up a wicket and kept the economy rate down. Picking her was an easy choice alongside Shamila Connell, the other West Indian bowler. Rounding out the side is Celeste Raak, one of the most impressive bowlers in the Irish ranks.
Captain and vice-captain: We have picked Hayley Matthews as the captain and Stafanie Taylor as the vice-captain for this match.

Even though we would love to see an Ireland victory to energize the local crowd even more, we just don’t see it happening against this West Indian team. The visitors have more experience, power, and talent than Ireland.
