We have an interesting situation in the Pakistan Super League right now as most of the teams have a very similar set of results. The only team which seemed to be lagging behind was the Lahore Qalandars and it too has recorded its first win of PSL 2020.
Now, a second match in two days gives the Lahore Qalandars to catch up with the other teams. The Lahore Qalandars have played two matches fewer than the other teams and can climb up the points table very quickly with a couple of wins to their name.
The Lahore Qalandars are going to be playing against Islamabad United in this match. Two losses and a no-result in the previous three matches for Islamabad United have meant that the side is second from the bottom in the standings right now. With just four matches remaining in the group stage, Islamabad United cannot afford to take things easy at all.
Islamabad United vs Lahore Qalandars PSL 2020 is going to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium on the 4th of March 2020.
Luke Ronchi played a brilliant inning of 85 not out and was helped by some good contributions from the others in the lineup as well but Islamabad United could not get enough runs to win against the Karachi Kings.
A score of 183 for the loss of three wickets is a bit disappointing because it shows that the team did not utilize its resources. It’s good to see teams end over 200 or lose more wickets in trying. Colin Munro got out cheaply and Colin Ingram was not able to get too many either but the incredible batting form of Shadab Khan continued to surprise.
Shadab Khan has promoted himself up the order and hit another fifty which included four sixes. His strike-rate of 174 was the highest in the entire inning and he was responsible for the scoring acceleration towards the end of the inning.
The Islamabad United batting lineup is a bit unconventional but it is coming together pretty nicely.
Faheem Ashraf had one of his worst nights with the ball as he went for 47 runs in just 2.4 overs. That is over 17 runs an over and an absolute horror show for a player with so much international experience.
Shadab Khan, Dale Steyn, and Rumman Raees all bowled decently without being particularly effective. Overall, the Islamabad United side came up against a strong Karachi Kings batting performance and could not do too much about it.
We are sure they will hope for an improved performance against the Lahore Qalandars.
Luke Ronchi, Colin Munro, Rizwan Hussain, Colin Ingram, Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Akif Javed, Zafar Gohar, Hussain Talat, DW Steyn, Rumman Raees.
A brutal display of hitting from Ben Dunk proved to be the inning that turned the match in favor of the Lahore Qalandars. He smashed ten sixes during his 43 ball stay at the crease and ended with a total of 93 runs to his name.
Dunk also hit three fours but that was clearly not the focus of his inning.
Fakhar Zaman, Chris Lynn, and Mohammad Hafeez form a strong top-order but have not been performing as per expectations just yet. The fall in Fakhar Zaman’s batting is quite dramatic and Chris Lynn’s struggles against the slower bowlers are also becoming a worry.
Samit Patel has been a fantastic value addition to the Lahore Qalandars side. He scored 70 runs off just 40 balls and provided the support that Ben Dunk needed.
Quick wickets at the top of the order and a consistent accumulation of wickets after that ensured that the Lahore Qalandars were always in a dominant position after their batting effort. A blitz from Ben Cutting at the end was not enough to upset the Lahore Qalandars this time around.
The bowling unit has moved by Usman Shinwari and replaced him with Salman Irshad who picked up four wickets in the previous match. With Shaheen Afridi, Dilbar Hussain, Samit Patel, and Seekkuge Prasanna in there as well, the Lahore Qalandars bowling attack is in pretty good shape.
Chris Lynn, Salman Butt, Sohail Akhtar, Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, Muhammad Faizan, SR Patel, S Prasanna, Salman Irshad, Usman Khan, Dilbar Hussain.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

There are some clouds expected to be around Lahore on match day and a few showers late in the day are forecast as well. We should be able to enjoy a complete match, though, before the rain hits. The pitch at the Gaddafi Stadium was very good for batting in the match just held here 24 hours prior to this one.
That means we can safely assume another very similar surface, maybe a tad bit slower from having been used so recently.
A score of around 180-185 would be the least that teams batting first aim for.
We think the Lahore Qalandars have turned an important corner by winning their first match. They have played some good cricket and come close but failed to close things out. Their revamped bowling attack is also more reliable than what they started PSL 2020 with. Islamabad United is a dangerous team but one that is going through a lean patch.
Bet on the Lahore Qalandars to win.
