Islamabad United and the Multan Sultans have had contrasting starts to PSL 2020. While Islamabad United squandered a position of strength and ended up losing their opening match, the Multan Sultans did not break into a sweat defeating the Lahore Qalandars.
The Pakistan Super League can be a tough league to recover from a bad start because the matches come so fast and you can be three matches into the tournament without a win before realizing. Islamabad United would believe that they can be much better than they were in the opening match while the Multan Sultans will be confident of another good showing as well.
Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans PSL 2020 is going to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on the 22nd of February 2020.
Dawid Malan continued his tremendous form in T20 cricket as he scored 64 in the opening match of PSL 5. Malan has managed to find a place in the England national team on the basis of his performances around the globe and runs in Pakistan would be another feather in his cap.
The problem for Islamabad United is that the batting seems to be too dependent on Dawid Malan. Colin Munro has been seeing a diminishing return in T20 cricket over the last few months. He is destructive and dangerous but his weaknesses are pretty well documented and that could make life tough for him.
Hussain Talat, Luke Ronchi, Colin Ingram, and a raft of all-rounders all of whom can bat but are not batsmen do not make us very confident about the batting capabilities of Islamabad United. We think a couple of early wickets could make this lineup very jittery indeed.
Mohammad Musa was the standout bowler for Islamabad United in the previous match while Akif Javed and Faheem Ashraf did pretty well also. Shadab Khan and Amad Butt, though, went for 94 runs in their 7.3 overs which ended up losing the match.
Islamabad United will be well aware of where the faults were in their previous match and be hoping for a better response from its senior players.
Colin Munro, Luke Ronchi, Dawid Malan, Hussain Talat, Colin Ingram, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Amad Butt, Musa Khan, Akif Javed.
The Multan Sultans waltzed their way to victory against the Lahore Qalandars. The only time they looked under a bit of pressure was when Chris Lynn started teeing off at the top of the inning. After that, though, a mix of excellent bowling and some very poor batting from Lahore pretty much settled the match at the end of the first inning itself.
Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, and Mohammad Ilyas were the best of the bowlers sharing six out of the eight wickets to fall. Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Irfan were also tidy but it appears as if there are going to be sterner tests ahead of the bowling attack in PSL 2020.
The target in front of the Multan Sultans was not too big and it allowed Shan Masood, James Vince, Rilee Rossouw, and Shahid Afridi all to play some steady innings. Moeen Ali missed out and would hope to cash in soon enough.
A number of batsmen got starts but they were not able to convert that into something substantial.
The Multan Sultans seem to have put together a very decent mix of players and have started well in PSL 5. They are not going to be the pushovers that a lot of people (including us) thought them to be.
Shan Masood, J Vince, Moeen Ali, Rilee Rossouw, Zeeshan Ashraf, Khushdil Shah, SMSK Afridi, Mohammad Ilyas, Mohammad Irfan, S Tanvir, Imran Tahir.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first.

No rain is expected in Lahore on match day and it appears as if another great day of cricket is in store. The pitch at the Gaddafi Stadium is always a little slow and it played true to form. The Multan Sultans showed, though, that scoring becomes much easier once the batsmen have spent a bit of time in the middle.
Dew will play a part in the game once again.

The Multan Sultans have started the tournament well and have the advantage of being familiar with the conditions. The Islamabad United team has not impressed us with its balance and strategy. We think the Multan Sultans could register another win in this match.
