About the Match
Playing their eighth match, Tallawahs are riding high with 12 points from 6 wins and are up against the rejuvenated Zouks, who have opened their account in the points table with a solitary win against Hawksbills, on 9th Aug at St. Kitts. The lowly rated Lucia will try to create an upset if within reach, but that cannot change the fortunes of the Tallawahs, who will not take the match lightly and will be eager to continue with their winning momentum going into the next stage.
Tallawahs have a strong top order with Gayle and Walton giving a solid foundation for the rest of the line up till No.6 to maintain a good run rate. The only loss they have suffered was against the Red Steel in chasing 183, wherein even though Gayle did his best to thwart the opposition designs by hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes in his 60 and Russell gave good company by contributing 40 off 17 balls, the batting down the order could not tackle O’Brien and hence succumbed to 170, falling short by 13 runs. Leaving aside that loss where the team was tested up to No.8, they have generally been achieving the target batting second or setting a good target. Shah, Voges and Blackwood have been coming good most of the time and their bowlers Theron, Russell, Vettori, Taylor and Miller produce variety unsettling the opposing batsmen, thereby being in top form in defending the score or restricting the opposition. They will certainly not allow the Zouks to take any liberty in the present encounter as they have done in the earlier match at Grenada chasing 161, winning the match by 8 wickets with 6 balls to spare.
St. Lucia Zouks
They set a good target against Tallawahs when they met earlier about a month ago but the form and performance levels of the opponent was so strong that they reached the target losing only 2 wickets and 6 balls to spare. The highest score they have made was 167 against Tridents wherein Charles and Sohail hit half centuries but they could not defend it because of the strong batting line up of the opponent. Tallawahs will not allow them any room in all departments, in spite of the fact that they have nothing to lose. But their win against the lowly rated Hawksbills on 3rd has given them some solace; they have to restrict the free scoring Gayle, Walton, Blackwood and Voges. Even Taylor could prove mighty if he settles down and they need to be cautious in batting taking guard against Bernard, Vettori, Theron and Russell.
The Zouks have not had a good show throughout the tournament, coming close to wins but not making it through; however, they cannot be taken lightly here. Though the match will be a well-fought one, a win to the table leaders, Tallawahs is very much expected at the end of the contest.
