The Mzansi Super League 2019 is about to start and we could not be more pumped! South Africa’s premier T20 competition has had some teething troubles but things are looking up and the sheer quality of domestic performers makes the matches very intriguing.
The purpose is going to be to search for a possible upcoming South African super-star or two but just a well-attended competition that spreads the game in the country will be enough as well.
Starting things off are the Jozi Stars and Cape Town Blitz, the two teams which made the finals of MSL 2018. As defending champions, all eyes are going to be on the Jozi Stars to see whether they can repeat their success.
Jozi Stars vs Cape Town Blitz MSL 2019 is going to be played at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on the 8th of November 2019.
Reeza Hendricks made his name in the previous edition of the MSL and will hope to do the same after falling out of the national team in recent times. He is definitely on the fringe of South African selection, though, and MSL 2019 could serve as the perfect stage for him.
Hendricks is going to lead a strong batting lineup that will feature Chris Gayle, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and Shoaib Malik.
Gayle can be a hit and miss but he is not someone to be taken lightly even at this stage of his career. In Rassie van der Dussen, the Jozi Stars have one of the best T20 cricketers for South Africa at the moment. We just he is not pushed too far down the order.
Bavuma is a bit out of form but still a force at the domestic level and Shoaib Malik is coming fresh off a very successful Caribbean Premier League 2019.
Dan Christian, Ryan Rickleton, and Simon Harmer also make the lower order pretty strong.
The bowling is going to be led by Kagiso Rabada with some top-notch bowlers as support. Duanne Olivier was one of the leading wicket-takers in MSL 2018 and will form and excellent fast bowling partner to Rabada. Dane Paterson is out and out quick and could also find a place in the starting eleven.
Simon Harmer, Aaron Phangiso will probably be the two bowlers given the responsibility of the spin bowling. Dan Christian is a very good all-rounder and could actually play ahead of one of the spinners depending on the conditions.
Chris Gayle, Reeza Hendricks, RVD Dussen, Temba Bavuma, Nono Pongolo, DT Christian, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Dane Paterson, SR Harmer, Duanne Olivier.
A couple of Pakistani players are going to be missing for the start of MSL 2019 for Cape Town Blitz and that is why the team has sought replacements. Asif Ali and Wahab Riaz are the two players that are not going to be available for the first couple of matches and this is why the team has managed to rope in Moeen Ali in their place.
We think having Moeen Ali is a huge positive. He is a superb batsman and can bowl his full quota of four overs as well. He also had plenty of success in the Vitality Blast 2019 edition a month or so ago.
With batsmen like Quinton de Kock, Liam Livingstone, Janneman Malan, and Marques Ackerman in the side, there is no shortage of batting talent at the Cape Town Blitz’s disposal.
Quinton de Kock was just shy of being the top-scorer in previous year’s competition. His current form is good and he is very capable of ripping apart the strong Jozi Stars bowling attack.
Dale Stey, Anrich Nortje, and Vernon Philander are expected to be in the side as the seam bowlers. Moeen Ali and possible Mohammad Nawaz could be the spin-bowling all-rounders.
We don’t think Cape Town Blitz has the same depth as Jozi Stars in either the batting or the bowling but they do have some very good players leading the charge.
Quinton de Kock, Janneman Malan, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Mohammad Nawaz, Aviwe Mgijima, George Linde, VD Philander, SSB Magala, DW Steyn, Anrich Nortje.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first because defending has been traditionally tough at the Wanderers.

There is a little bit of rain around in Johannesburg but the forecast suggests that it will clear up well in time. We should have a full match without any major interruptions. The pitch at the Wanderers is brilliant for batting.
The ball is going to come on to the bat fast and fly off in the thin atmosphere. There is some incredible batting talent on both sides and so we should see a high-scoring match.
Dream11 team and Dream11 prediction for Jozi Stars vs Cape Town Blitz has to be based on purely the strengths of the teams on paper. This is the first match and so nothing is known about team strategies, playing combinations, or current form.
That being said, we have made some educated guesses after following the practice matches, seeing recent performances, and taking the conditions into account.

This is the first match of the tournament and the two strongest sides on paper are starting us off. We can only judge the teams on paper since the current form will only become clear a few days down the line.
The presence of Moeen Ali and Quinton de Kock on the Cape Town Blitz helps tilt things just a bit on their side. We would advise a not too crazy bet on this match looking at the match winners on both teams.
Bet on Cape Town Blitz to win.
