Things are turning into a real nightmare for the Jozi Stars as they fell to their third consecutive defeat in the Mzansi Super League 2019. The defending champions have played three matches and are yet to register a single point to their name.
They now face the Nelson Mandela Giants who are unbeaten in MSL 2019, although, they have just played one complete match as of now. Their second match was rained out and so they have six points from two matches.
The Jozi Stars are going to have to turn things around very quickly otherwise their hopes of defending the title or even making the playoffs seem to be going up in smoke.
Jozi Stars vs Nelson Mandela Bay Giants MSL T20 is going to be played at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on the 16th of November 2019.
The Jozi Stars were under pressure going into their previous match and cracked to put in their worst performance of MSL 2019. The bowling lineup led by Kagiso Rabada was unable to stop Cape Town Blitz from scoring freely or pick up wickets at regular intervals
As a result, the Jozi Stars were left with a target of 184 which they eventually fell short by 57 runs. That is a big margin of defeat and will only add salt into the Jozi Stars wounds.
There is a lot of batting power in the Jozi Stars lineup on paper but it does not seem to be firing at the moment. Reeza Hendricks got out cheaply and Temba Bavuma was the only batsman to put up a fight.
Chris Gayle has been very disappointing at the top of the order, Rassie van der Dussen is having a shocker of a tournament, and Ryan Rickleton seems to be a bit out of his depth at the moment. The dependence of the Jozi Stars on Reeza Hendricks and Temba Bavuma is troubling.
The lack of penetration from the Jozi Stars bowlers is also a big concern. This bowling attack has now given up big totals in all the three matches it has played. Kagiso Rabada is not having the kind of impact expected of him and the other bowlers are struggling as well.
Aaron Phangiso, Simon Harmer, and Daniel Christian are very experienced T20 bowlers but they have been left ineffective due to some strange tactics employed by Bavuma. Not one of these bowled their full quota of overs even though the frontline bowlers were struggling.
Chris Gayle, Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, RVD Dussen, Sinethemba Qeshile, DT Christian, SR Harmer, Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada, Aaron Phangiso, Duanne Olivier.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Giants have played just one complete match in MSL 2019 and that was against the Jozi Stars. A win thanks to a brilliant bowling performance in the previous match is going to give the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants a lot of confidence.
They managed to keep the Jozi Stars well under control and its batting lineup is going to be under even more pressure in this match.
Chris Morris, Imran Tahir, JJ Smuts, and Junior Dala were all very good during the previous match. It was refreshing to see Morris and Dala maintain disciplined lengths because that is not something they are known for.
Imran Tahir is a champion bowler and continues to be one of the best bowlers in T20 cricket even after retiring from international games.
The challenge for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants is going to be to find some consistency from its batsmen. Jason Roy, Matthew Breetzke, JJ Smuts, Ben Dunk, Heni Kuhn, Farhaan Behardien, and Chris Morris form a long batting lineup that is packed with plenty of power.
Roy and Breetzke, though, are not the most reliable while Ben Dunk has a lot to prove as well.
The Giants were bailed out by Heino Kuhn, Farhaan Behardien, and Chris Morris in the previous game which instills some confidence in the lower order but the top-order has some work to do as well.
JJ Roy, Ben Dunk, JJT Smuts, Heino Kuhn, GM Thomson, Marco Marais, Chris Morris, Onke Nyaku, Nandre Burger, Junior Dala, Imran Tahir.

Close to 400 runs were scored in the first match held at Johannesburg and we expect a similar batting paradise to be served up for this match as well.
The bowlers from both the teams are going to be under pressure and the depth of the batting order is likely to be tested.
A score of around 180 can be seen as just par for this venue.

The Jozi Stars are performing below their potential and are not as bad a team as they appear to be right now. However, the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants are one of the stronger sides in the tournament and not the kind of team you want to play when you have lost three on the trot.
A superior bowling attack and a deep batting lineup tilt things in favor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants for us. The Jozi Stars could be headed for their fourth straight defeat of MSL 2019.
Bet on the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants to win.
