About the Match
With the TUTI Patriots running away from the rest of the pack, the most interesting fight has become the one for second place. Two of the contenders, Karaikudi Kaalai and the Chepauk Super Gillies will be taking on each other in what promises to be a very evenly matches encounter.
A close win in the last game against Thiruvallar Veerans would have given a lot of confidence to Karaikudi Kaalai. The form of Srikkanth Anirudha was absolutely breathtaking as he finished with 55 off 36 balls laced with 6 sixes.
In fact, a tricky chase of 167 was made easy because of the consistent big hits that Kaalai kept on getting throughout their innings. A total of 14 sixes were hit in their innings as compared to only 3 in their opponents.
There is a small worry about a groin injury that Anirudha picked up during the last match but we expect him to play none the less. Karaikudi Kaalai has a very decent batting lineup led by the openers, Anirudh and Vishal Vaidhya, both of whom have been in excellent form.
Following them is the dependable but Subramaniam Badrinath and the hugely impressive Shajahan. Badrinath is currently in some very poor form but we expect him to hit form sooner rather than later, giving the Kaalai batting another boost.
The bowling for Karaikudi Kaalai is being led by R Rajkumar who has 6 wickets to his name and an economy rate of 5.66.
He and Mohan Prasath keep the bowling tight and ensure that the opposition does not run away with the game. Sonu Yadav picked up a couple of important wickets last time, Sam and Ganapathy can also be relied on in most matches.
This is a team that is peaking at the right time.
Chepauk Super Gillies
The Super Gillies have only lost one match in the tournament so far, to the Patriots, and been pretty impressive. Even that loss, coming in their last match, the Gillies gave a tough fight to what is easily the strongest team in the league.
An unfortunate run out early in the innings and a lapse in concentration by Gopinath meant that the middle order had to come good for the Gillies to win. An excellent effort by Antony Dhas and S Karthik later in the innings though was not enough.
The Gillies need to ensure their batting is in order for the upcoming matches if they are to compete though. Gopinath has been good at the top of the order with 92 runs to his name, but R Sathish has only 7 runs from three innings.
Thalaivan Sargunam also scored one impressive fifty in the tournament but failed to convert a start in the last game.
They will need to be more consistent against a strong Karaikudi Kaalai team.
The bowling for the Super Gillies will be led by Sai Kishore and R Sathish. R Alexander has three wickets to his name at a brilliant economy rate of 4.75. Most of their bowlers have been economical and got runs through scoreboard pressure, something they may find a bit more difficult against some of the better batting teams.
Yo Mahesh was expected to be the leader of this attack but has looked strangely subdued in the tournament so far. The Gillies must try and get their players in the right frame of mind as the business end of the tournament approaches.
Pitch and Conditions
It will be a hot and humid day in Chennai tomorrow with some clouds appearing later in the evening. The chances of rain are currently being forecast as 25% so we should get a full game in all likelihood. The pitch at Chepauk will be slow and low. The time to attack will be with the new ball.
We think a score of 160 will be difficult to chase.
