About the Match
The TNPL is approaching its final group matches and it looks like three teams will be left fighting for the final two positions till the very end. Karaikudi Kaalai is one of those teams although its opponent for this match, Ruby Trichy Warriors, will be playing just for pride. Can the Warriors raise their game and land a crucial blow or will Karaikudi Kaalai make the most of their final group game this year?
The stakes for Karaikudi Kaalai could not be higher going into this game. They need a win to try and secure their place in the final four otherwise they leave themselves vulnerable as the rest of the group games play out.
In fact, one of the disadvantages of finishing their group games earlier than the others is that they don’t just need to win but win by a significant margin to give their net run rate a boost as well so that they are covered on that front as well.
Karaikudi Kaalai has had an inconsistent season so far. They have played six matches and won three out them, losing the other three. Some of their wins were hard fought and raised hopes but some of their losses were due to extremely poor performances.
Which Karaikudi Kaalai will turn up in the final match?
The fitness of Srikkanth Anirudh will be a huge concern after he missed the last two matches. He is the highest scorer for Kaalai and his absence will be a big blow. In his absence, Vishal Vaidhya has been picking up the slack and the middle order has contributed as well.
Shajahan in the lower middle order has the power to provide a strong finish but it is Subramaniam Badrinath, their most experienced player, that really needs to step up in this match.
The bowling looks to be in safe hands with Mohan Prasath, R Rajkumar, C Ganapathy and Sonu Yadav carrying excellent form with them.
Ruby Trichy Warriors
This has been another season to forget for the Ruby Trichy Warriors with only one win from their five matches so far but they would desperately like to finish with two wins from their last two matches. It is not entirely unthinkable as they face the Lyca Kovai Kings in the last match of the tournament, another team that has struggled and could upset the inconsistent Karaikudi Kaalai in this match.
The biggest problem for the Warriors has been their lack of support to the opening batsmen. Even in the last match, the Warriors were 83 for 1 in 9.3 overs before being limited to 132 for 7 from their 20. Baba Inderjith has 185 runs to his name while Bharath Shankar has scored 153 so far and no one else has totaled a 100.
Occasional big hits from Nilesh Subramanian and Akkil Srinath have been insufficient to provide any sort of sustainable boost to the Warriors batting.
We think they will find it difficult to turn things around suddenly in this match and need to hope for a big inning from one of their openers to carry them through.
The bowling has been similarly disappointing with Kousik and Kaushik being the stand outs among a weak lineup.
Pitch and Conditions
The last match at Dindigul was washed out and there is some more forecast for rain. The good news though is that rain is expected to ease up around the time the match starts and so we may get a delay but eventually some cricket is definitely on the horizon.
The pitch at Dindigul has started to show some uneven bounce and stopping on the batsmen. 150 will be a good total batting first.
