Tamil Nadu Premier League is finally in its last week and the clouds of uncertainty are beginning to wander away with every passing game. The qualification scenarios will get clearer after the result of the fixture between Karaikudi Kalaai and TUTI Patriots on 5th August 2018. Both the sides are going neck-to-neck in the points table with Karaikudi Kalaai at the fourth spot and TUTI Patriots just two points away from them. A win for TUTI will make things interesting in the points table as three teams, namely Karaikudi Kaalai, Lyca Kovai Kings, and TUTI Patriots will be with eight points separated only by the net run rate. Similarly, a win for Karaikudi Kaalai would also cause the same thing to happen, albeit at the top of the table between Dindigul Dragons, Siachem Madurai Panthers, and Karaikudi Kalaai.
After an excellent four-match winning streak, Karaikudi Kalaai lost Siachem Madurai Panthers in what was a rather one-sided defeat. Batting first, Srikkanth Anirudha continued with his good form as he scored 48 off 43 deliveries.
V Aditya played a good supporting role in an opening partnership which lasted for a little more than five overs and reaped 35 runs. He perished for a personal score of 25 which took just 16 balls. Bafna, Anirudha, and R Srinivasan tried to take the game deep for a late assault, but due to their death-over collapse, the assault never materialized. Karaikudi Kalaai had to settle for a modest total fo 158 which was eventually chased easily.
The bowlers started off well for KK as they Madurai Panthers on the mat with 56 for 4 after seven overs. However, the fifth wicket partnership between PS Chandran and Arun Karthik took the game away from them. VY Mahesh was the pick of their bowlers, albeit a tad expensive, as he picked a couple of scalps for 33 runs in his 3.2 overs. S Kishan Kumar bowled economically and returned with the figures of 4-0-27-1. Arun Karthik's fine batting took the game away from them as Panthers eventually got to the target with eight balls and four wickets to spare.

A loss in their last match as brought TUTI Patriots to a do-or-die stage and they must win this match to get to eight points and have any chance to qualify for the playoffs. They'd need to win this match with a margin big enough to take them clear of Lyca Kovai Kings' net run rate.
Just like Karaikudi Kaalai, Jones TUTI Patriots could manage a subpar total in their last match which became the primary reason for their loss. Batting first, the Patriots scored 157 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on the brilliant 41-run knock of NS Rajagopal. As many as four players scored more than 20 runs, but no one was able to convert it into a big knock which resulted in a below-par score for them.
The total was easily chased down by Ruby Trichy Warriors with six balls and seven to spare. Barring Ganesh Moorthi, no bowler was able to create any pressure whatsoever. Although they picked up three wickets in quick succession, with Moorthi taking two out of those, it was too little and too late as Baba Indrajith notched a brilliant fifty to guide Ruby Trichy Warriors to a much-needed win.
S Dinesh, Kaushik Gandhi, Subramanian Anand, Nidhish Rajagopal, Rajagopal Sathish, Malolan Rangarajan, M Ganesh Moorthi, S Abishiek, Ravisrinivasan S Kishore, Rajamani Jesuraj, V Athisayaraj Davidson.
It's a do-or-die situation for Jones TUTI Patriots as they need to win and win with a considerable margin to qualify for the playoffs. For Karaikudi Kalaai, not losing by a big margin will be enough as far as the qualification for the next round is concerned. Gandhi hasn't been in the kind of form he was last year which has been the primary reason for Patriots struggling to make it to the playoffs. However, they have the services of the experienced players in Sathish, S Anand, and Gandhi himself which can be crucial in crunch situations. With Dinesh, Anand, Abhishek, and Rajagopal in good form, we think that TUTI Patriots will edge past Karaikudi Kalaai in this high-stakes encounter.
