About the Match
Faislalabad Wolves will face Kandurata Maroons in the 5th qualifier of the Champions League T20 on 20th Sep. Both teams have been knocked out of the tournament as they failed to score wins in both their qualifiers this week. This will be their final match here and remains to be only a formality. Faisalabad Wolves fell short of huge expectations by their supporters back home as the youngsters failed to rise up to the occasion. Kandurata Maroons showed some promise but easily let the contest slip away from their fingers in both their qualifiers. A lot needs to be seen on Friday as to which team will play their best to leave the series on a winning note.
Misbah-ul-Haq again battled alone against the opponents as the middle order crumbled to pressure. His heroic efforts of 56 runs off 40 balls couldn’t turn the tide in the team’s favour as they could barely manage 127 runs on the board. Ammar Mahmood and Ali Waqas did start out well but couldn’t keep up the momentum. The bowling was ineffective too and Saeed Ajmal was not able to work up his magic. Ehsan Adil with 1 wicket and Imran Khalid with 2 crucial wickets brought some relief in the 2nd innings. However, the team couldn’t defend their low total against Dhawan’s hard hitters. Despite their efforts, the team ended putting a dismal performance in their performances so far. After being under severe criticism for their lack of form, the team needs to get it together for a face-saving win in Friday’s match.
Upul Tharanga with 76 runs off 56 balls and Dilhara with 3 crucial wickets were on fire yesterday. But for the middle order collapse, the team could have definitely put up a challenging total. The long line of tail-enders tried their best but could only manage 154 runs, slightly short of a good defending total. Jayasuriya and Sangakkara couldn’t withstand the pressure in this crucial match and put up equal scores of a lowly 13. Except Tharanga, the batsmen provided no contest to the Otago bowlers. The leg spinners bowled well as a unit; however, it was only Dilhara who provided the regular breakthroughs. With his heroics, it looked like a comeback for Kandurata; however, with no support from the other bowlers, the team narrowly missed this match too. It has been a disappointing series so far for the team. Much needs to be seen if they gather their confidence once again and put their game face on against the Pakistan contingent.
Faisalabad Wolves seems to have lost their spunk and have failed to show their fighting spirit. Misbah’s lone battle couldn’t quite inspire the youngsters so far. Having said so, they do have good potential to make a comeback. Kandurata Maroons on the other hand show great determination and will to strike the opponents with their best talent. It looks like an easy win for the Maroons.
