About the Match
In this 2nd match of qualifying group, Kandurata Maroons representing Sri Lanka are facing Sunrisers, Hyderabad 17 Sep at Mohali, Chandigarh. Both teams are brimming with confidence with talented players in the line-up. Both teams have experienced players and a good mix of old and young, specialists and all-rounders, who have proven records against their names in all forms of the game. While the Kanduratas have Sri Lankan players, the Sunrisers have well known international players with White from Australia leading the team. The players would like to oblige the enthusiastic crowd, with good show of hard hitting, acrobatic fielding and real fast bowling. Favorable weather will ensure that the match will last full length and is going to be a nail biting finish.
Lahuru Thirimanne has been given specialist bowlers in Herath, Randiv and Kulasekara who will test the Sunrisers from the very 1st ball. They have a good mix of spin and fast bowling and Chamara Silva, Milinda and Ajanta will provide the required support. Sangakkara with his experience of leading the Sri Lankans and talent in all forms of the game knows the strengths of the players and thus would lend good support to the captain from behind the wicket. Most of the players have very good experience, some of them having played for Chennai Super Kings, Surrey etc. The captain with Upul Taranga, Chamara Silva and Sangakkara would form a formidable combination in the top order to pile up a good total which will help build a psychological pressure on opponents irrespective of whether they bat first or field. It is going to be a challenge to dismiss these players.
Shikhar Dhawan has a balanced side, with most of the players having played over fifty T20s. The younger players have role models to whom they can look for guidance during the progress of the match. While South African Steyn would exhibit his prowess in fast bowling, Darren Sammy of West Indies and Perera from Sri Lanka would demonstrate their capability as all-rounders, coming in middle order while batting and medium pace bowling to scare the opponents. Duminy with over 130 T20s to his credit will stabilize the innings. Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra and Anand would play to their full potential. Shikhar has been in good form in the last season and would not let down his admirers. Parthiv is a matured keeper now and can give a good start to the innings.
Both teams have men with rich experience, talents and proven records. Sunrisers have the services of five international players and young Indians who have played for different teams in earlier IPL tournaments. The match is going to be a very close finish as it’s poised to be a thriller Tuesday. As Sunrisers have the talent to surprise their opponents, youngsters capable of electrifying fielding performances, they look better placed to walk away with the cake at the end.
