About the Match
Karachi Kings have 2 points and stand third on the points table; they will take on Peshawar Zalmi, who are placed second with 4 points, on 11th February at Sharjah. While the Kings defeated Qalandars in their opening match by 7 wickets, they haven’t been able to repeat the winning performance till now, losing two consecutive games since then; Zalmi on the other hand registered two straight wins at the start but lost the match recently to Quetta Gladiators by 3 wickets. The upcoming match will test the skills and determination of both sides and it needs to be seen which team can come out all guns blazing to emerge victorious here on Thursday.
They came close to winning the match against United but the lower order bungled up with two quick run-outs and lost the match by 2 runs; the chase for 133 runs started slowly as they lost 4 wickets by the 8th over with only 40 runs on board and Shakib-Al-Hasan, Iftikhar Ahmed and Ravi Bopara tried to revive the innings but in vain. Earlier, the bowlers had done very well to restrict the opposition’s run-flow as Mohammad Amir, Wasim and Bopara demolished the top and middle order; however, the batsmen failed to cross the finish line.
In the opening match against Qalandars, they had put up an all-round performance as they restricted the opponent to 125 runs and went on to achieve it with 4 overs to spare thanks to half-centuries by Simmons and Shakib-Al-Hasan and a quick fire 12 off 7 balls by Shoaib Malik. Mohammad Amir had a successful second spell as he claimed 3-27 while Sohail Tanvir, Wasim, Shakib and Shoaib took a wicket each in regular intervals to stifle the opposition.
They have a strong batting line-up with players like Lendl Simmons, Shoaib Malik, Shakib, Vince and Bopara to steady the innings; they need to pull up their socks and go back to their winning ways here.
They had successfully chased down 118-run target against Qalandars to register their second win of the season; the bowlers had been merciless as Mohammad Asghar took 2-11 in his 4 over spell, proving to be the economical while the pacemen Wahab Riaz, Shaun Tait and Junaid Khan took a wicket each to demolish the opponents.
Mohammad Hafeez and Tamim Iqbal did well, scoring 43 and 55 runs respectively at the top order; they must focus on building a strong foundation in the upcoming game too. Dawid Malan, Kamran Akmal and Shahid Afridi bring stability to the middle order but must provide the thrust to the innings.
Their pace attack is strong with Wahab Riaz, Shaun Tait and Junaid Khan being in good form while Asghar and Shahid Afridi have been taking wickets regularly. They have won two games and must not be bogged down by the recent loss to Gladiators; they must strategize well against the Kings to win the match on Thursday.
Both teams have lost their last match and will be eager to go back to their winning ways with a better performance here; while the match could go down to the wire, we feel that Peshawar Zalmi will make a comeback with a win here
