About the Match
We are into the business end of the tournament with teams having ‘make or break’ kind of situation in front of them. Karaikudi Laalai is set to take on Ruby Trichy Warriors on 11th August 2017 at Dindigul in a quest to strengthen their position in top four. Karaikudi Kaalai are currently placed at fourth spot in the points table at par with VB Thiruvallur Veerans, separated only by NRR. Ruby Trichy Warriors, on the other hand, are hovering at the bottom of the table with only one win to their name. With only three games to play, things are already looking bleak for them and it is imperative for them to register a win.
Karaikudi Kaalai have excelled well under the leadership of Subramaniam Badrinath with skipper himself being fantastic in batting and fielding. Karaikudi Kaalai have won three games out of six and would need a couple of wins in their upcoming games to ensure their place in playoffs.
They escaped with a narrow victory against Dindigul Dragons where Vishal Vaidhya scored a brilliant 41 runs to anchor the innings. S Badrinath and M Shajahan played useful knocks of twenty runs each to take them to respectable total of 150 runs.
Their bowling contributed well with Mohan Prasath picking up four wickets for just 24 runs. R Rajkumar and Suresh Babu did well to restrict the opponents in the middle overs. Overall, Kaalai have the right balance and they can topple any side if they fire all cylinders.
Ruby Trichy Warriors
Trichy Warriors’ campaign has been rather poor in all departments. They’ve lost a few games where they could have won, but their performance has been nothing more than ordinary.
In their last game, Chennai Super Gillies overran them with absolute ease as both their batting and bowling failed to live up to the expectations. Their only consistent player has been Baba Indrajith who has scored heaps of runs in the tournament. Other batsmen have just failed to live up to the expectations.
Bowling too has been substandard with bowlers giving away too many lose deliveries more often than not. All in all, Ruby Trichy Warriors have a good team on paper, but they haven’t been able to convert it on field. It would not be surprising if they are able to pull off something special in a must-win match, but they’d need to play out of their skins.
Ruby Trichy Warriors have a good team on paper, but would need a special effort to register a victory. While it is possible, it is highly improbable. Karaikudi Kaalai have looked to be a lot better team and with their excellent balance, they go in as firm favorites in this match.
