About the Match
As the TNPL 2017 roll on, it looks like Albert TUTI Patriots are going to very difficult for the others to stop. One of the teams that can actually stay close to them is Thiruvallur Veerans, currently second on the table and in action in the 13 match of the season against Karaikudi Kaalai.
With two losses from their three matches so far, Karaikudi Kaalai has not had the best start to its season. The only win came against the hapless Madurai Super Giant, a team yet to register a win this season.
It is actually a little strange that Karaikudi Kaalai is struggling so much in this tournament considering the fact that they have some excellent batsmen in their ranks. Srikkanth Anirudh and Subramaniam Badrinath are both IPL players that found quite a bit of success at the higher level.
In this tournament, though, both of the players have struggled to score runs consistently. Anirudh scored a fifty against Madurai but has only totaled 93 runs for his side so far while Badrinath has only 65 runs to his name.
These two and Vishal Vaidhya will need to start performing consistently otherwise they risk falling behind in this tournament very quickly.
The bowling will depend on Rajkumar and Mohan Prasath to pick the wickets along with some contributions from Sam and Ganpathy. The Karaikudi Kaalai bowlers will know that their opposition batsmen have struggled and there is an opportunity to keep the pressure on them.
The Veerans are second placed in this group with two victories from three matches and things have started to come together for them of late. Their batsmen, who had struggled in the first two games, started to find some form while their bowling and fielding continues to be top-notch.
In fact, we believe it will be the bowling for both teams that decides the outcome of this match.
Rahil Shah and Malolan Rangarajan are seasoned performers while Silambarasan and Sanjay yadav too have made regular inroads into the opposition batting lineup. Opposition batsmen know that they are going to find no respite when it comes to the bolwing and so they must take regular risks to get the scoring rate high.
The batting for the Veerans has been much more inconsistent but with Chaturved and Siddharth hitting form in the last match, there is hope that this side of their game will come together as well. It will be interesting to see what happens if the Veerans lose a couple of wickets early though since their middle and lower order is pretty vulnerable in our opinion.
The fielding, which Veerans can easily claim to have the best among all the teams in this tournament, could be a huge differentiator as previous matches have shown.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at Dindigul is quite possibly the best for batting so far although there is some fear that uneven bounce will start to appear as the tournament goes on. The weather forecast is for some rain to be around and so it is quite possible that the match will be curtailed or maybe even have to abandoned altogether.
If we do get a full game in, a score of around 170 should be considered as Par.
We are going for the upset here and backing Karaikudi Kaalai to win.
