KENT vs SUR Match Prediction - Jun 04, 2023

After finishing last in the South Group with a 3-11 record in 2022, Kent could only hope for a better season this year. It happened well enough in the first game with a victory, but Kent have since dropped two games in a row. Those losses were to group leaders Somerset and Surrey, so that’s no shame, but it’s an indication of where the team is at right now.

Surrey finished 2022 with a great 10-3 record (1 N/R), although had a disappointing ending after losing to Yorkshire in the quarter-finals by an agonizingly close margin of one run. 2023 has looked good so far with a 3-1 record and the team is certainly shaping into form.

This Kent vs. Surrey matchup will take place at St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury, on June 4th. Visit here to see the odds for all the cricket matches.

KENT vs SUR Team Previews

Kent

There has been some promising batting signs from both Bell-Drummond (92 runs) and Muyeye (70) so far, with both having at least one solid half-century. Whether they can create a bigger spark that forces a victory will remain to be seen, but as Cox (56) and Denly (58) aren’t really helping much, it will be up to others to score major runs.

We’ve been highly impressed with bowler Michael Hogan, whose fast-paced deliveries are helping to at least keep Kent close in these latest matches. He’s picked up seven wickets and given up 91 runs, as well as earning 3/13 in one match so far. Stewart is helping out well enough with five wickets, but Kent will need Kane Richardson to perform as well as he did in the Aussie Big Bash League.

Kent Playing 11

Tawanda Muyeye, Daniel Bell-Drummond, Joe Denly, Sam Billings, Jordan Cox, Jack Leaning, George Linde, Joey Evison, Grant Stewart, Kane Richardson, Michael Hogan.

Surrey

Clearly not just talented with the ball, Jacks is one of the best allrounders in the T20 Blast right now, as he’s leading Surrey with the bat thanks to 156 big runs (high score of 83*). Evans hasn’t been as strong as he was last year and has struggled to make shots with only 46 runs, but Abbott and Curran have both tallied over 100 runs.

Sunil Narine was an important bowler in the 2022 season, thanks largely to his remarkable 14-wicket haul, and it looks like he’ll do the same in 2023. Already with stats of 7/105 across four games, Narine’s spin bowling continues to dazzle and confound in equal measure. Jacks is also great with 5/53, so we can’t wait to see what this bowling tandem can cook up.

Surrey Playing 11

Will Jacks, Laurie Evans, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Jamie Smith, Sean Abbott, Sunil Narine, Ben Foakes, Chris Jordan, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson.

KENT vs SUR Toss Prediction

Out of 50 T20 games played here, 32 have been won when batting first, which is quite a large margin and is clear that captains will likely choose this option if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

The St. Lawrence ground has a surface that’s perfect for batting, as the ball tends to slow down after the first 3-4 overs. The bounce gets more predictable and batters should get into their groove if they’re focused. Bowlers can fool batters with some slower deliveries, though. Teams may try just one spinner to see how the conditions are treating them.

KENT vs SUR Betting Tips

Surrey has won the last three matchups against Kent, and it certainly feels like it’s going to be a fourth very soon. The Mostbet odds are far more enticing to choose Kent, but right now we’re hesitant to recommend this team. Hogan might be able to pick up some fast wickets, but we’re more concerned about the batting, as Bell-Drummond isn’t quite the hero batter they need.

Surrey has been great when bowling in the late overs and has several good options for pace, but Narine’s spin is also something to be wary about. The top-order batting strength is evident, as Jacks, Abbott, and Curran have been efficient and reliable so far. Let’s see if Evans can also pick up the pace.

Bet on Surrey to win.

There are several good bets for Jacks, but these odds are fantastic and worth a shot. Jacks has scored as much as 83* and 43 this season, so it's not too surprising if he made a half-century against a team like Kent.

    Surrey Top Bowler: Sunil Narine

    100/30

There's a good chance to earn money here on this bet, as Narine is keeping up his form with at least 1-2 wickets per match. He's yet to take 3 wickets this season, but he picked up a total of 14 last season, so it's only a matter of time before he breaks out and uses his great spin attack.
