About the Match
Returning franchises Khulna Titans and Raj Kings, who missed the last edition of BPL, will take on each other in the 3rd match of the tournament at Dhaka on 9th November. Both teams have made some significant changes to the squad to bring in more experience and fire power; the contest could be well-fought and the fans will definitely be excited to see some fireworks across the park. While the Kings have an interesting mix of overseas player, they have local match-winners too, who give them the edge here. Titans too have some big names from earlier BPL editions and could prove to be a tough nut to crack; it needs to be seen which of them come right on top in all departments of the game.
Mahmudullah will lead the side consisting of experienced players like Kevon Cooper, Lendl Simmons, Ben Laughlin and Junaid Khan from overseas. The batting line-up has talented debutant Hasanuzzaman, who can hit big when required, wicketkeeper batsman Andre Fletcher, Alok Kapali who can stabilize the middle order and Mahmudullah himself, who will be motivated to lead from the front. Youngsters like Mosharraf Hossain and Ariful Haque can try to impress with their skills.
The bowling department has local speedster Abdul Halim and Shafiul Islam, English pacer Benny Howell, the experienced Junaid Khan and Ben Laughlin; spin tactics will be provided by Shuvagata Som, Mohammad Asghar, Abdul Majid and all-rounders Mosharraf Hossain and Mahmudullah.
Overall, they have quite a depth in batting as well as in bowling departments; if the batsmen can focus on building a strong foundation whether batting first or during chase, then they can keep the pressure on the Kings to try and win this first game.
All-rounder Mehedi Hasan, who won the man-of-the-series award in his debut test against England recently, will have all eyes set on him as they expect him to fire again for the new franchise; along with batsmen like Mominul Haque, Sabbir Rahman, Farhad Reza and Rony Talukdar, Hasan too will look to contribute well with the run-flow. Other overseas players like Samit Patel, Darren Sammy and Umar Akmal also bring depth to the batting line-up and will need to get the big runs here.
The bowling squad has Ebadot Hossain, who impressed with his pace skills against England recently, and is waiting in the wings to prove his mettle; other fast-bowlers like Pakistani speedster Mohammad Sami, all-rounder Darren Sammy, local players like Abul Hasan, Salman Hossain and Delwar Hossain can add depth to the attack.
They have various spin options which can support Mehdi Hasan in this department; Nazmul Islam, Raqibul Hasan, Samit Patel and Sabbir Rahman are in good shape to outwit the opponents.
The Titans have a strong batting line-up with overseas players and young talent; on the other hand, Kings too have experience on their side that can help them overcome challenges here. The result could swing either way but we feel that Titans with their battery of bowlers are better placed to win.
