Rajshahi Kings defeated table-toppers Comilla Victorians by 30 runs in a thrilling match recently; they now have 6 points and stand in the 6th position, and will take on Khulna Titans, who are in the first position with 11 points, on 27th November at Chittagong. The Titans defeated Rangpur Riders by 9 runs in the last match to continue with their winning momentum; they will be determined to maintain their position. The Kings, on the other hand, need to win again in order to keep their hopes alive.
Batting first against Riders, Mahmudullah led the charge from the front, posting 59 off 36; he was well-supported by Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Nicholas Pooran, and Ariful Haque to take the total to 158. Spinner Afif Hossain and speedster Junaid Khan put up an economical show and took 3 wickets between them to stifle the Riders’ chase.
When they met Rajshahi Kings previously, the Titans had easily chased down 167 and won the match by 2 wickets. Mahmudullah and Ariful Haque smashed sixes and fours to keep the scoreboard ticking. While the captain yet again led from the front with 56 runs, Haque contributed with 43 runs off just 19 balls. Earlier, Junaid Khan was brilliant with a 4-wicket haul while Abu Jayed, Brathwaite and Afif Hossain provided regular breakthroughs.
They are a strong unit with experienced batsmen like Mahmudullah, Rilee Rossouw, and Ariful Haque, who is a strong asset in the lower middle order. The bowling squad has pacers and spinners, who are in good form to stifle the Kings again.
Captain Darren Sammy’s inspired batting performance against Victorians helped them accumulate 185 runs in the first innings; the experienced all-rounder scored a power-packed 47 off just 14 deliveries to give them the required boost coming in at No.7. Earlier, Luke Wright had scored 42 runs while Dwayne Smith and Mominul Haque did well to build the foundation. Zakir Hasan and James Franklin also played useful knocks and helped get them to 185. Then the bowlers led by a brilliant show by pacer Mohammad Sami’s 4-9 made life difficult for the Victorians and won the match by a whopping 30 runs.
Spinner Mehidy Hasan and other speedsters like Mustafizur Rahman, Franklin, and Dwayne Smith provided regular wickets, and they successfully defended the total. The victory has surely boosted their morale, and they will be motivated to put up an all-around performance yet again on Monday.
Against Titans, Smith had done well to post 62 off 36 while Mushfiqur Rahim also had pitched in with a well-made 55; James Franklin and Sammy can strengthen the innings from the middle order. Sami is in brilliant form and will lead the pace attack here while others like Franklin and Smith bring their all-rounder skills to the table.
Khulna Titans are on a winning roll and have good resources in their unit, who could come out all guns blazing; however, Rajshahi Kings who caused a major upset recently is looking determined to keep the wins coming. The match could well go down to the wire but we feel that Rajshahi Kings are better placed to outwit the Titans here.
