About the Match
It is a repeat of the IPL semi-final match earlier this year when Kings XI meets Chennai Super Kings for the second semi-final match of the CLT20 series on 2nd Oct at Hyderabad; Super Kings will be eager to avenge its defeat whereas Kings XI looks to be in top form to once again reach the finals and take the title. However, the contest will not be an easy one for either of them as players from both sides have been performing very well, bringing out their best for the cause of the team. We will have to wait and watch which team can dominate and come right on top to fight for the cup with the winner of the other semi-final match, taking place on the same day at the same venue.
Kings XI Punjab
The bowlers helped Kings XI overcome the Cobras challenge to score a comfortable win in the last match and make it to the semi-finals in style; Anureet Singh and Akshar Patel achieved their career best figures of 3-12 and 3-15 respectively to break the top order of the Cobras batting line-up. The duo along with Karanveer Singh, Perera and Maxwell ensured that the opponents were restricted to a low total by picking up regular wickets; wicket-keeping by Saha was sharp and his alertness caused the fall of two crucial wickets. It was a complete team effort that saw Cobras getting all-out for just 135 runs, which the batsmen achieved with ease. Apart from Sehwag and Vohra, who put up a 41-run opening stand, it was Saha’s unbeaten 42 off 35 balls that took the team safely home. His skills are an added advantage for the team and he couldn’t have peaked at a better time; Maxwell, Miller and the top order are in very good shape to take on the onslaught of the Super Kings bowlers like Ashwin and Sharma. They will need to continue with their hard-hitting skills and keep their winning momentum going at this crucial juncture; with so close to the title, the players must be surely motivated to give their best in the upcoming match.
Chennai Super Kings
It was Jadeja, Bravo and Dhoni who came together to steer the team towards a respectable total of 155 runs against Scorchers; the top order batsmen McCullum, Smith and Raina were in for surprise as the opposing bowlers got the better of them, dismissing them within 6 overs. Defending the total, Ashwin took 3 wickets giving away only 20 runs whereas Nehra took 2 wickets to dismiss the openers of the Scorchers line-up. Another wicket by Sharma and a run-out caused by wicketkeeper captain Dhoni, brought them victory by 13 runs thereby taking them through to the semi-finals. They will now have to step up their game and go for the big shots against Kings XI bowlers, who are in tremendous form at the moment. The bowling squad is tight and with Sharma, Ashwin and Nehra in good form, they are optimistic to rein in the hard-hitting batsmen from the opposing team.
The contest will be well-balanced as both teams have many plus points that are working for them presently; though Super Kings will do their best to avenge their defeat and make it to the finals, Kings XI looks better placed to overcome the challenges and emerge victorious.
