Kings XI Punjab
Having reigned supreme at the top of the table, they are finding themselves below Chennai Super Kings having lost to Mumbai Indians in the 6th match though they have played one match less than their counterparts. They won against Chennai in their 1st encounter, having overhauled the stiff target of over 10+ an over, with 7 balls to spare; Maxwell continues to be in full form and punishes the bowlers with his blistering knocks. The openers are doing their job well though Sehwag is not consistent; Saha is giving good company to Maxwell to ensure the stability at the top. Bailey and Miller also have been performing well to see that they don’t need the services from players below No.6 in the batting line-up. Young Sandeep Sharma has been showcasing his quickies with Johnson, Balaji, Patel and Dhawan lending good support to each other to retain their supremacy in bowling. They are playing against a formidable side that’s topping the points table and hence will have to try hard to beat Dhoni and his men.
Chennai Super Kings
They are on a winning streak, with superb performance in all departments of the game; in the last match against rejuvenated Daredevils, they chased a well-made target of 179 successfully and are leading the points table with 12 points from 7 matches. A fantastic fielding effort by CSK was a treat to watch with imaginative bowling though Karthik and company were at their best to post a near 9 asking rate. Dwayne Smith and McCullum had a fantastic partnership and when Raina joined Smith after the fall of McCullum, sixes and fours poured in from both the blades; ultimately Dhoni came in handy as usual to score the 11 runs needed from the last over and he finished the job in style. Smith was a cynosure of all with his superb 89 runs with 8 sixes and Raina remained unbeaten in the company of Dhoni. CSK is in great form and will be ready to score a sweet pay back against Punjab for the loss they suffered in their tournament starter though they had scored 205 runs, which remains to be the only 200+ target in the tournament so far. With extraordinary efforts from the players and in-form all-rounders like Jadeja and Raina, they are bound to do well in this match.
Punjab suffered its first defeat of the season against Mumbai, which is placed at the bottom of the table and this might have hurt the team’s confidence. CSK with its superb form and boosted morale looks good to avenge its defeat and well placed to win this contest convincingly.
