About the Match
Kings XI Punjab registered a surprise win over Royal Challengers in the last game but having already been ousted from the tournament with only 6 points on board, the victory only acted as a consolation. They will go up against Chennai Super Kings, who are at the top with 16 points, on 16th May at Mohali. KXIP have nothing to lose and would like to end their tournament with a win here; CSK on the other hand will look to cement their place and are hungry to enter the playoffs on a high. It needs to be seen if the hosts can bow out with something to cheer about or if CSK succeeds to grab 2 more valuable points on Saturday.
Chennai Super Kings
Losing the match against Delhi Daredevils by 6 wickets, CSK received a blow to their momentum but it didn’t affect their lead. The batsmen could only get to 119 with Faf du Plessis’ 29 being the highest score of the innings. Dhoni ran well between the wickets but couldn’t convert it into a big score. Ishwar Pandey and Pawan Negi picked up couple of wickets each but couldn’t stop Delhi from winning the match. Previously, they defeated Royals by 12 runs after McCullum blasted 81 off 61 to help them post 157 as the target. Jadeja, who was struggling to make a substantial contribution with either bat or ball, finished with figures of 4/11 and helped CSK go top of the points table. CSK will largely rely on its spinners and the top order to play a key role in the next match; Dwayne Smith, Mike Hussey and Suresh Raina are providing blazing starts while Faf du Plessis, Dhoni and Bravo are supporting the team in the middle. With bowlers in form, they are emerging to be a formidable side to reckon with.
Kings XI Punjab
They spoilt the party for RCB by defeating them by 22 runs; with this win KXIP ended their 7-match losing streak but they have already been ousted from the competition. Wriddhiman Saha blasted 31 off 12 while Axar Patel smashed 20 off 15 balls help post a competitive total of 107 in 10 overs. The bowlers were effective towards the death as Axar Patel picked up 2-11 while Anureet Singh also claimed 2 wickets. They lost their previous match against SRH by just 5 runs as David Miller’s unbeaten 89 off 44 couldn’t help the team reach the mammoth total of 185. Saha, Maxwell and David Miller did well in some matches but failed collectively as a unit to make it to the next stage. On the bowling front, Axar Patel, Anureet Singh, Beuran Hendricks and Sandeep Sharma are in-form and capable of taking wickets; overall, they can come back with strength and hopefully end the season with a win or two to have something to celebrate about.
It should be a cracker of a game between the Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab and going by their strength, CSK looks a more stable side. After defeating an invincible looking team, KXIP will be full of confidence because of Maxwell-Miller combo and the fact that they are playing at home makes them a strong contender, but Chennai has had better record in past, and we think that CSK is more likely team to score a win this game as they are back on track after win against Rajasthan Royals at home
