About the Match
This Wednesday on 10th April, Kings XI Punjab would face tournament favorites Chennai Super Kings who have already lost their opening game to Mumbai Indians. Kings XI Punjab, on the contrary has started its campaign with a victory to their name. CSK, who is being considered as one of the favorites to win the tournament would love to make a statement early in the tournament. Kings XI are hoping to continue their winning run, and it couldn’t be on an easier ground than their home ground, Mohali.
Kings XI Punjab:
KXIP started its march with a commanding win over Pune Warriors beating them in their own backyard. After excellent display with the bowl, they strolled past the easy target of 100 in just 12 overs. Kings XI Punjab has a well-balanced side led by experienced Adam Gilchrist. Adding to that is the experience of Azhar Mahmood who has polished his T20 skills by playing in various different leagues. Piyush Chawla plays an important part in the spin department often picking up wickets and stopping the run flow. With Mandeep and Gilchrist at the top of the order, explosive start may not be as surprising as it seems. David Hussey provides strength to middle order and Praveen Kumar helps in initial overs through his accurate spin bowling. All in all, KXIP is a good team with a few vulnerabilities only and can be a difficult side to play against.
Chennai Super Kings:
CSK is the only team to play in playoffs in all of the five IPLs. They’ve always been slow starters in all seasons of IPL, but have picked up in the later stages to just make it to playoffs. However, CSK is one of the strongest sides on paper featuring some of the biggest starts of the game. Their batting is led by Mike Hussey and young Murali Vijay followed by flamboyant Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. MS Dhoni can take any attack on his day and has one of the coolest cricketing brains in the world cricket. With Ashwin leading the spin attack, it’s difficult for any batsman to hit him for runs. Chennai, on any given day, is a difficult team to beat, as it has been seen in last IPL seasons.
With Kings XI playing at its home ground, the natural home support comes to them. But, with MS Dhoni in the other team, you never know what to expect. Dhoni scored a quick-fire fifty in the last game and nearly won the game for CSK. There are many potential match winners in CSK and Kings XI appears to have even one. After looking at team compositions, it would be safer to go with CSK for this game.
