About the Match
Defeating Delhi Daredevils by 13 runs, KKR bagged 2 more points and are now placed 3rd with a total of 13 points; they will go up against Kings XI Punjab, who have just 4 points and are at the bottom of the table on 9th May at Eden Gardens Stadium, Kolkata. KKR now should win 3 more matches which would take them to 8 wins and this should be enough for them to qualify. On the other side, nothing has gone right for KXIP, having lost 5 matches on a trot they are now out of the play-offs, but they have the fire-power to challenge any team and can give their fans something to cheer about if they win a few games now. The match is going to be very exciting and whichever team can keep a cool head above its shoulders will beat the other and emerge victorious on Saturday.
Kings XI Punjab
It was another massive defeat for KXIP, this time against RCB by a big margin of 138 runs as they failed to chase down the mammoth target of 227. It was a humongous task for a demoralized Punjab team and they capitulated under pressure as they managed just 88 in 13.4 overs. The batsmen inexplicably surrendered without any fight and were reduced to 30/4 in six overs. But Axar Patel saved them some blushes with a fighting unbeaten 40 off 21 balls. Anureet Singh bowled a fine spell; however they would rue the fact that Gayle was dropped twice. They also lost their previous encounter against MI by a small margin of 23 runs; David Miller scored 43 off 37 and Murali Vijay posted 39 off 34 but they could not up the tempo and lost the match. They were one of the strongest batting line-ups on paper however, since the tournament started, their batting has been well below par, with Maxwell and Sehwag continuously struggling to put up a big score. It is their bowling that has been impressive as Sandeep Sharma and Anureet Singh have time and again showed us their mettle with the ball. Overall, they have the talent to get some more points in the upcoming matches before bowing out of the competition.
Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR earned another victory this time against the Daredevils by 13 runs after setting up a competitive 171 on the board. Robin Uthappa gave them the ideal start by scoring 32 off 31 while Yusuf Pathan blasted 42 off 24 help the team dominate the opposition; on the bowling front, Piyush Chawla finished with impressive figures of 4-32 to demolish the Daredevils batting line-up. In their previous match, a 35 victory over SRH took KKR to the 3rd spot in the points table; helped by an impressive performance with the ball wherein Umesh Yadav’s great start with 2 wickets in the first over gave them the required impetus. Brad Hogg also picked up 2 wickets and scored a competitive total mainly on the back of useful hands played by Robin Uthappa, Gautham Gambhir, Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan. Overall, everyone in the team has made vital contributions as and when required and KKR have nothing to worry about at this stage if they focus on sustaining the winning momentum.
KKR are high on confidence and are keen to seal a spot for the playoffs whereas KXIP have failed to kick off this season and after 6 successive defeats, they look like wounded lions who are hungry for a win and might bounce back with more confidence. KKR is on a high presently, and hence they look set for yet another win.
