About the Match
With so many closely contested, but lost games, Kolkata Knight Riders are slowly but surely sliding towards the exit gate. Against Kings XI Punjab at their home ground, Eden Gardens, they have the chance to make things go their way to defend the crown. The match is to be played on April 25th 2013 at 8:00pm IST. Pitch has behaved pretty well offering help to both spinners and the batsmen. Once again, there would be plenty of help for the spinners and both teams feature excellent spinners. This IPL has been a season of nail-biting contests and nothing less is expected this time too.
Kolkata Knight Riders:
KKR may consider themselves a little unlucky with so many close shaves not going their way. They lost a crucial game against Mumbai after being in a good position. They lost to Chennai in a game before and that was again after being in good position. Their new opener, Yusuf Pathan, seems to be a right choice to provide them the much needed momentum at the start of the innings. Eion Morgan is in excellent touch and Tiwary seems to be getting back to the form. Gambhir and Kallis are both class acts and have performed reasonably well thus far. The pick of their team has been Sunil Narine who has been difficult to score against. KKR is one of the toughest sides to beat, they just need that little bit of luck to go their way.
Kings XI Punjab:
Kings XI Punjab after being in a terrible position has bounced back strongly. The side at one time looked down and out, but with a few changes to their side, they are looking to be a completely different side. KXIP chased down a target of around 190 which no one expected. They then went on to register a convincing win against Daredevils. David Miller and Luke Pomersbach strengthen the middle order and it won’t be surprising if Adam Gilchrist decides to drop himself to accommodate Shaun Marsh in the side. They do not have the big names, but ample contributions from local lads and bowlers have delivered to take them to a reasonable position. They’ve been excellent at home and it would be interesting to see how they fare in alien conditions.
It was a real close encounter when these two sides competed at PCA, Mohali earlier in this season. Despite Mishra’s hat-trick, Kings XI Punjab managed to crawl to the victory. KKR has been on a losing streak since then. KKR would be looking to take revenge while Kings XI Punjab would be looking to extend their dream run. Playing away is always difficult, and therefore, I’d place my bet on KKR for having a better side on paper and home conditions.
