Chandigarh is hosting the match between the home team and table toppers, Kings XI Punjab with 18 points from 11 matches and Mumbai Indians who have 8 points from 11 matches. While the visitors are in a must win situation if they aspire to make it to the next level, the hosts are sitting pretty well at the top of the table and are always eager to annihilate the opposition. In terms of attitude and professional approach, both teams have been playing this season of IPL with a lot of focus and purpose; it will be interesting to see how Mumbai Indians maneuver this critical situation against the favorites.
Kings XI Punjab
Winning the toss against Daredevils in their last match, Kings XI put them to bat first and a superb 69 off 44 balls by Karthik and Pietersen just missing a half century, took Delhi to a competitive 164 for 7. Sandeep Sharma and Hendricks shared 3 each and Patel accounted for one. Chasing 165, Sehwag played well, opening the innings but later 3 more wickets fell quickly; Saha and Patel held the innings together and when Saha left 5 down, they needed 36 runs off 30 balls. Akshar Patel with 42 off 35 and Rishi Dhawan 6 unbetaten, saw the team win by 4 wickets with 2 balls to spare. This side has not been bowled out by any team so far in IPL 2014 and most of the times only half the team has padded up and twice they have crossed 200+ runs. They are in superb form; but can the unexpected happen throwing a surprise to the Kings XI, is a question that only time can answer. A rejuvenated Mumbai Indians have just beaten the fancied and consistent Rajasthan Royals by a whopping margin of 25 runs in the last match and that achievement is fresh in their mind and action; Punjab will definitely play cautiously here.
They are fresh from the previous match win against Rajasthan Royals by a handsome margin of 25 runs after making 178 from the allotted 20 overs. Thanks to a rollicking knock of 62 off 51 balls by Simmons, a quick fire 40 that led to 56 off 39 balls by Skipper Rohit helped the Mumbai Indians pile up a challenging total. Harbhajan, Gopal, Ojha and Santokie bowled very well and shared wickets between them; Rayudu was outstanding in the field taking 3 splendid catches. Pollard caught near the boundary, threw the ball as he could not control, jumped outside the line reverted back, had a full length dive and caught the ball to dismiss Cooper. Karun Nair made a heroic 48 off 24 balls and held one end while the other batsmen of Royals were regularly succumbing at the other end; Hodge and Faulkner showed some recovery but superb fielding by Mumbai Indians prevented any reversal for them. It was a splendid show by Mumbai Indians as a team and they are determined to face the formidable Kings XI and make a match of it.
The match will surely be filled with fireworks and we could see some great fielding action too from both sides. With the form and performance, Kings XI is destined to win the match and clearly go in as favorites but Mumbai Indians in a must-win situation, may surprise the on lookers.
