About the Match
The Kings XI Punjab would take on Mumbai Indians on Monday, 29th April at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Kings XI Punjab who recently found their form could not have found worse time to play against Mumbai than this. Mumbai Indians are beginning to register their presence with some promising wins while KXIP still have a lot of issues to sort out. Kings XI Punjab has shown some spirited performances in recent past and would be looking to derail Mumbai from their winning streak.
The arrival of Dwayne Smith has brought a lot of fortune to the team. With back to back half centuries in two games and accompanied with excellent fielding and part time bowling, he has been a blessing in disguise for the Indians. Their bowling which was struggling early on, seems to have got into the groove and the bowlers are bowling with rhythm and energy. They always had a great batting lineup with Sharma and Karthick in good form. Pollard, whose name is enough, is also finding his feet. After a couple of good performances, all the worries seem to have resided and Mumbai is a dangerous side on field just as it appears on paper.
Kings XI Punjab:
Kings XI Punjab hasn’t been consistent enough in this tournament and they always get attracted to losses after winning a few games. At least, it’s what happening to them in this season. After two marvelous victories at home and away, Kings XI lost to KKR at Eden Gardens quite easily. There were positives to take from that game, but negatives overshadow them. One of the positives was that Gilchrist was showing some signs to get back into the form. Mandeep Singh showed signs of brilliance in his batting before getting holed out. Their bowling lacks the teeth to take wickets and stop the flow of runs in the middle overs. Overall, they have a strong batting lineup, but one of the players would have to do something spectacular to beat Indians in their home ground.
Rohit Sharma’s captaincy along with his batting has already gained lots of credits, but it’s time to keep it going. Can Mumbai Indians carry forward the momentum to stall Kings XI Punjab? Looking at their side on paper, it’s very likely. But, considering their past record, Mumbai has always holed out in important games of IPL. Also, positive signs from Gilchrist should sound an alarm in Indians’ squad. With ample Indian talent, although a weak bowling lineup, I suspect KXIP to pull this game off. It can be really rewarding to bet on KXIP just because of the fact that Cricket is a funny game and funnier things have happened in IPL.
