Kings XI Punjab
David Miller came through for the team against Tridents, in their chase for 175 runs, scoring an unbeaten 46 runs off 34 balls and continued with his good form; Sehwag and Vohra gave good support in the top order while Patel did well down the order however players like Perera and Bailey couldn’t contribute with the runs. It was a close finish and the batsmen are expected to do better in the upcoming matches; Maxwell didn’t fire in the last match but did well scoring 43 runs against the Hurricanes. In the bowling front, Awana is in excellent form as he picked up 3 wickets against Tridents while Anureet Singh and Perera claimed 3 wickets between them. They have a good variety in the bowling attack and are experimenting well with all-rounders like Sehwag and Maxwell, who can throw in a surprise or two for the opponents. Overall, the team is a strong contender this season and will be put their best foot forward in each and every game.
The strong Kiwi batting line-up collapsed against the Aussie Hurricanes’ power house of Bollinger and Hilfenhaus; falling like a pack of cards in their chase for 179 runs, getting all-out for a mere 92 runs. This humiliating loss would have hurt the morale of the team but they are not ones to back down and are expected to do well in the upcoming match against Kings XI. Except Styris and Southee, the others were dismissed for single digits; the batsmen will have to make better efforts and respond well to the bowling attack of the opponents. The bowlers did well to restrict Hurricanes to 178 runs but they need to be more disciplined with their line and length and pick up wickets regularly. The players would have learnt some bitter lessons from this defeat and we expect them to bounce back on Friday to return back to their winning ways; the Knights will have to strategize well against a strong team like the Kings XI and execute the plans to perfection.
Both sides have well-balanced composition of hard-hitting batsmen and an excellent bowling squad that can deliver at crucial situations. While the contest will surely go down to the wire, the Knights will be more determined to come back with a win here and erase the bitter memories of their recent humiliation.
