About the Match
It would be an even battle when two equally balanced sides face each other on Sunday 21st April. Kings XI Punjab faces Pune Warriors India at PCA Mohali. More often than not, both the teams have been lingering at the bottom of the table since the inception of IPL. The teams have plenty in common yet again; both of them have won just two games so far, their batting isn’t firing; in fact they’ve gone over 150 only once in the whole season. All in all, it’s a match between two teams who haven’t been good at all and would love to make this game as a Launchpad.
Kings XI Punjab:
The campaign of KXIP in this tournament has been rather poor. Their batting isn’t scoring runs, but their bowling seems to be doing just enough to get them over the line. Despite having one of the biggest hitters of the game, Adam Gilchrist, they haven’t been getting the start they need. Shaun Marsh is likely to make a comeback in this game strengthening this batting order. Along with the overseas stars, local talent needs to put a price on their wicket unlike they did in their previous game. KXIP is a better side than the stats suggest and it is even better at home.
Pune Warriors India:
Pune is the most expensive side in the IPL, but their performance does not justify the money spent. Angelo Mathews has been struggling with both captaincy and his personal form. Their degree of poorness of their batting performance is evident from the fact that they haven’t been able to chase a target of 120 twice. Their bowling, just like Kings XI Punjab, has been spot-on with Kumar often picking up early wickets. They do have a strong lineup and with Yuvraj back, it only strengthens. If even one of their big guns get going, Pune can be a force to reckon with.
It would be an important game for both the sides from the table perspective. Currently both teams are sitting near the bottom of the table and a win would take them up and may impart the momentum needed. It’s very hard to choose between two of the IPL’s worst performing sides, but considering team and the result of previous affair, Kings XI Punjab do have a little edge over Pune Warriors India.
