About the Match
Delighted and lifted by Miller’s killing ton, Kings XI Punjab have got a new life in this tournament. They have got the reasons to believe in themselves and in their next assignment at home, on 9th May, they face Rajasthan Royals who too are enjoying a good run in the tournament. Rajasthan Royals were invincible at home, but their away record hasn’t been so good and they’d be looking to build onto that. Kings XI Punjab need to win at least all but one matches to have a chance to qualify in the final four. This game is crucial for both teams riding on good form and a crunch game is expected.
Kings XI Punjab:
Kings XI Punjab may not be placed well in the table, but the recent loss of SRH and KKR along with their unexpected victory has reignited the hopes of qualification to the playoffs. Their batting is in reasonable form with Marsh and Mandeep looking fluent while their middle order is ruled by David Miller and David Hussey. Rajagopal Sathish showed his talent with the bat in the last game as he played a good supporting role to Miller. With Miller in such good form, opposition cannot get complacent and would have to be on their toes all the time.
Rajasthan Royals recently beat Delhi Daredevils at Jaipur and kept their awesome home record. It’s time to improve their away record and gain in confidence as almost all of their remaining games would be away. After their loss to KKR, they’ve bounced back nicely by winning two games in a row. Rahane and Dravid pair is doing exceptionally well by playing bookish shots, but scoring at brisk pace. Watson, Binny and Hodge provide the finishing punch to push the score or up the ante whenever needed. Their bowling is a cause of concern and we might see Sreesanth back in next game. They’ve been invincible at home, and considering their team and form, they won’t be easy to beat away as well.
Due to the heroics of David Miller have certainly raised the hopes of KXIP fans and their morale is definitely up. KXIP would now be facing Rajasthan Royals who have been excellent at home, but not so good away. However, PCA pitch is behaving much like PCA and Rajasthan looks to be a balanced side. KXIP looks to be over-reliant on David Miller as local lads are not firing. Rajasthan would be playing at home similar conditions and with players like Rahane, Watson and Dravid in prime form, they definitely hold the edge in this game.
